Don't expect the same thing as the show     On: 2010-08-29

This is really nothing like the fun show of the 70s. The only thing similar are the idea of going back in time, dinosaurs, the character names only. The rest has been transformed into modern day sexual and bathroom humour.

Remember years ago when special effects played secondary to a good script? This isnt years ago.

If its one thing I miss is just how funny comics were in the past without resorting to potty humor.

If you take this an do not compare it tothe actual show, its an ok time waster movie. But if you put them both side by side, what a disappointment this movie really is.
So dumb it does not even make sense     On: 2010-08-06

Will Ferrel has a knack for turning a great idea for a comedy into an utterly stupid movie. This remake of the old classic is a perfect example. Mr. Ferrel plays a mad scientist in this movie, one who builds a machine that can take him to another dimension that fuses different times and places in earths history. He has two unwitting fellows on his trip, a nerdish groupie played by Ann Friel and an unknown actor playing a redneck with some good intuition and common sense. The three of them have a hell of a trip that blows the bounds of knowledge and logic. And like any typical Ferrell movie, we have toilet humor, scenes with dangerous animals, narcotics, weird foods, and other props found in a slapstick comedy. But some scenes were just too dumb, like the part when Ferrells character passes thru the digestive tract of a T-Rex, and comes out with his hair in perfect condition.

Another strange Land of the Lost     On: 2010-07-24

Rated PG-13. 101 minutes.
Most of us over the age of 45, remember a time of innocence and decency in our lives. Saturday morning television was our time. That was when they broadcast the tv shows that were made for us young kids.
Their was H.R. Pufnstuf - The Complete Series (1969-71), Bugaloos Complete Episodes 1 to 17 (4pc) [VHS] (1970-72), Lidsville - Complete Series (1971-73), Shazam (1974-77), The Secrets of Isis - The Complete Series (1975-77), The Lost Saucer - Vol. 1 [VHS] (1975-76).
One tv program that was a must-see on NBC was Land of the Lost: Complete Series (Limited Edition Gift Set) (1974-76), starring Specer Milligan, Wesley Eure, Kathy Coleman, Philip Paley. It was like a soap opera for kids. We couldnt wait to see the next episode next week.
Sid & Marty Krofft tried a new Land of the Lost (1991) - Tasha/Somethings Watching [VHS] in 1991-92 with a new cast and modern special effects.
Now the Kroffts bring back Land of the Lost as a motion picture. Instead of the adventurers being a family, Will Ferrell is "Rick Marshall", a wacked-out paleontologist, Anna Friel as "Holly", a graduate student, Danny McBride as "Will", an owner of a roadside man-made haunted cave. Jorma Taccone (Saturday Night Live) is "Chaka".

Option of Language: English, Spanish, French
Option of Subtitles: English, Spanish, French
Option of Descriptive Video Service
Audio Commenty, 3 deleted scenes, 2 featurettes.

Wesley Eure and Kathy Coleman did film a cameo appearance for a scene towards the end of the movie, however it was deleted from the movie and a new ending was filmed.
This deleted cameo appearance is not on this DVD.
Wesley Eure did not know they had done this until he saw the movie at the World Premiere. They did not invite Kathy Coleman to the World Premiere.
Wesley Eure felt more shunning as he was invited to the 7th TV Land Awards (2009) to see a tribute to Sid & Marty Krofft. They did not reserve a seat for him to sit up front in camera range, but in the back, in the balcony.
Due to the public outcry of this film, especially from the original "Land of the Lost" fans, Sid & Marty Krofft may have dumped their plans for a new "H.R Pufnstuf" movie and "Sigmud and the Sea Monsters" movie. We shall see.
Leonard Nimoys voice is "Zarn".

the good, the bad, and the ugly     On: 2010-07-22

The Good: Will Ferrell and Danny McBride make the most of a bad movie. Their dialogue is hilarious, and they execute their jokes well. These two actors are the films saving grace.

The bad: The sets are both modern and retro. Some special effects are great, while others look like they were stolen from the original TV series. Im sure the campiness is deliberate, but it just feels weird when combined with more modern special effects.

The ugly: The film cant make up its mind. Its like they wanted to make a film that attracted adults but was still suitable for kids. The result is that they ended up somewhere in the middle - too much adult language and jokes to make it appropriate for kids, yet not enough substance to appeal to teens and adults.

The film ultimately fails because it tried to make a modern adult version of an old kids show, and it was a half-hearted attempt. If youre a diehard Will Ferrell fan, youll probably enjoy this. Otherwise, dont bother.
Like Ferrell?     On: 2010-07-13

If you do, youll have a ball watching this movie. I tend to be amused by Ferrells absurd non-sequiturs delivered in his own unique straight man style. Therefore I laughed at this movie until my tummy hurt. My wife stared at me for most of the movie with a look of puzzlement on her face. LOL

If you understand why its funny to eat dough-nuts with M&Ms inside so that you dont have to eat M&Ms after you finish eating the dough-nuts, then youve just passed the litmus test for whether youll laugh at this movie. If you dont think the M&M thing is funny for any reason, give this a pass. Not everyone has to see and like every movie.

Personally, I thought the special effects were very good, except for those that were intentionally cheesy to match the TV show, in good fun.

The desert scenes were a real treat, with various objects from Earth (and elsewhere) sticking up out of the sand in various spots. I had a lot of fun just trying to spot all the odd objects scattered about those scenes.

The characters have different relationships than the old show. Holly is "all grown up", and very pleasingly so.

And someone bemoaned the character development? They should pay attention. Wills character goes from being a disgraced scientist on a self destructive eating binge to a successful, self confident scientist, his theories validated, who can tell Matt Lauer to "Suck it" and get away with it. What more in the way of character development can you ask for than that??? LOL

Now, this isnt the great comedy of the coming decade, but if you like Ferrell, you will find amusement here. If you REALLY like Ferrell, you may be like me and get an ab workout while you watch. ;-)

This movie is just great     On: 2010-06-24

The first time i watch this movie i was undecided about how i felt.. It was silly and kinda like oh my goodness.. But you know i watched it again because i love Will Ferrell as well as Danny McBride and this movie is truly great its funny and silly and just a joy to watch and i mean common if you take it seriously and cant laugh because you find it stupid then go read a book because lifes to short if you know what i mean.. So let go of your serious movie watching expectation and prepare to enjoy a movie that is just great to watch..
Amusing movie, Purchased it for Child's Play Charity     On: 2010-06-10

I watched a downloaded copy of this movie a while back while we were on a trip. Its definitely a family movie and has jokes that are aimed at a fairly wide demographic. Its a pretty funny movie, super cheesy but I think that was intentional. Not like the original series was an award winner. Its a great movie to watch on a weekend if you just need something mindless and funny.

I actually purchased this for an Atlanta hospital participating in the Childs Play Charity ([...]) It was very easy to do and hopefully it brought some happiness to the people there.
Worst Film of 2009     On: 2010-06-07

If youre a fan of the 70s TV show Land of the Lost, you will definitely want to steer clear of this bomb. Without a plot and trying to force the comedy down our throats, this newly reinvented LAND OF THE LOST is a complete disaster. Yes, even with the much improved CGI effects.

The film tries to pull in fans of the original by sucking the cast into a time vortex, similar to how Marshall, Will and Holly were in the original. But instead of being scientifically interesting (if outdated and impossible), this time we get some serious low-brow comedy that misses almost every mark.

Those of you out there who also are not fans of Will Ferrell (Talladega Nights) will want to avoid this film like the plague. Hes in full-on childish mode, getting more groans than laughs (trying to make out with a proto-human while high on a hallucinogenic? Yes. Those kind of antics!). And hes in the lead role as Dr. Rick Marshall, so hes on screen in just about every shot.

His supporting cast are just as lame as he, unfortunately. Anna Friel stars as Holly, and her interactions and supposed romantic attraction to Ferrells Marshall character are probably whatll give most of you a good laugh. Its so unrealistic youll wish that shed disappear down another vortex.

The more unfortunate cast member, Danny McBride (Tropic Thunder) as Will Stanton, the owner of an extremely destitute theme park ride, plays the fool more often than Ferrells character, and not in a good way (is there one?). Which is too bad, really, as I like McBride in Tropic Thunder and SUPERBAD.

Theres not much here to enjoy (in case you didnt notice my review rating). More groans than laughs. More childish than adult fun. You might want to run away from this one as if a T-Rex were after YOU.
Two hours of my life wasted     On: 2010-06-07

If you are a fan of the original TV series you will be sorely disappointed. This movie bears little resemblance to the TV show other than character names and some sleestak. If you are not familiar with the TV series and have no expectations then you might find it mildly entertaining if you have a "simple" sense of humor. But anyone with more than half a brain is likely to consider this movie really dumb.
Good     On: 2010-05-17

I really liked this movie. I also remember watching the 70s version of this when I was just a little puppy! This movie does it justice (IMO)!
the best movie ever     On: 2010-05-14

i lmfao every time i watch this movie. the actors are amazing! will ferrel, danny mcbride and chaka are hilarious... get this movie, is the best movie you will ever watch!!!!
Uh...No!     On: 2010-05-12

Will Ferrells humor can go so far. Hes fine as a support character in bits and spurts, but to carry a film of a self-proclaimed classic tv (childrens) show is biting more off than it can chew. The special efffects and production values are great, but the comedy tone for this type of film doesnt mesh and Will Ferrells comic character and he doesnt gel with the rest of the serious-toned characters. This movie bombed on its initial release because it was up against the superior THE HANGOVER. However, it would have bombed even if it had been released if no other movie was released in any given weekend.
Goofy, Trippy, And I Like It     On: 2010-05-11

2009s "Land of the Lost" seems to be one of those films that you either love or hate. Unfortunately for stars Will Ferrell, Anna Friel, and Danny McBride, the latter group appears to be in the majority.

The film isnt so much of a big screen adaptation of the beloved childrens series that shares its namesake. Instead, its more of a campy and comedic revisioning of the show. While youll recognize the names of Rick, Will, and Holly, you wont see them as you might remember.

In this tale, Ferrell plays Dr. Rick Marshall, a washed-up scientist who is made out to be a buffoon by Matt Lauer (yep, THAT Matt Lauer) during an interview on the Today show when he attempts to explain that time-dimensional travel is possible.

A few years later, we find Marshall teaching middle-schoolers and being ridiculed even more. Its at this point that Holly Cantrell (Friel), a former grad student, shows up believing Marshalls theories to be true and possible to prove. She convinces Marshall to complete the tachyon amplifier, a device that he believes will allow him to travel to other dimensions.

Soon enough, the pair end up at a cave which appears to be the ideal spot for testing the amplifier. Leading the group on the "routine expedition" is Will Stanton (McBride), a stoner tour guide who uses cheap tactics in an attempt to scare his guests on their journey.

The tachyon amplifier begins to become active while traveling through the cave and soon the entire crew goes down a huge waterfall and end up in the Land of the Lost. They save Cha-Ka (Jorma Taccone) from sure death and then set out to find a way home via the now-lost tachyon amplifier. The group runs into Enik, a tunic-sporting Sleestak, who claims to be able to help them get home and also stop an evil Sleestak army from invading Earth. Will Dr. Marshall, Will, and Holly be successful in their attempt to save mankind? Does it realy matter in a film like this? Youll have to either laugh your way through or look away in disgust for the rest of the film in order to find out.

I wont say that this film is comedy gold. Its not that by a long shot. However, I must say that for folks who grew up on the original series, this film should be enjoyable. Throughout the dialogue of the film, fans of the original series will be able to lace together almost the entire theme song. Hollys clothing at one point and her hair throughout most of the groups time in the Land of the Lost call back memories of Kathy Colemans innocent portrayal of Holly in the 1970s. The Pakuni, Sleestak, and even Grumpy have key parts in the film. In short, the film manages to give a bit of respect to the original series without ridiculing its innocence.

With that said, I must point out that although the original series was innocent and kid-friendly, its big screen update certainly is not. There is quite a bit of coarse language throughout the film, a number of adult themes and references, and even one particularly violent scene involving an ice cream truck.

So why did I give "Land of the Lost" four stars? For the simple fact that it is a humorous campfest that never tries to be more than what it really is: an adult spoof of a much-loved childrens program. Much like in "Elf" and "Blades of Glory," Ferrells humor is restrained a bit. He doesnt become overly annoying. Anna Friel is easy on the eyes and plays her love-interest role with comedic flair. Danny McBride should be getting bigger roles by now. Hes much too funny to be standing in Ferrells shadow. If you havent watched his HBO series, "Eastbound and Down," I highly recommend it.

"Land of the Lost" isnt for everyone. If you really enjoyed the old TV show and want to have a bit of fun with it as an adult, pick up this DVD. If youre too serious to watch this film for what it is, dont even bother. I recommend "Land of the Lost" to anyone who grew up in the 70s or early 80s and remember the original series this film is loosely based on. Most Ferrell fans will probably enjoy this as well, but some of them might prefer Ferrells more unrestrained antics in his other films more.
has its moments     On: 2010-05-09

Im confused about something though- I used to wake up every Saturday morning as a child and would watch a show called Land of the Lost, but apparently this film is in NO way related to that old television series because this is definitely a comedy film, and I dont remember very many comedy elements in the Saturday morning TV show.

Land of the Lost is an alright movie. Actually I enjoyed many moments of it. I dont think its strictly a comedy like many other people do- I felt that a huge portion of this film was dedicated to some mildly enjoyable action bits involving Will Ferrell and his friends running away from dinosaurs, along with the scenes where the characters had to deal with the alien creatures. These were good moments.

Id even go so far as to say the adventure aspect was quite captivating in several spots as well. The special animations making it appear like the dinosaurs were really there and chasing after the people was realistic and satisfying to watch.

I didnt quite understand how certain things like a bus, a motel and a swimming pool somehow crossed to the other side where Will Ferrell and his friends were located on that strange piece of land. Perhaps I simply missed an important storyline element explaining all this.

I liked the scene where a HUGE bug came out of nowhere and bit Will Ferrell on his neck (and back) while he was playing his guitar. Mosquitos from another time can be even WORSE apparently- makes me feel fortunate, haha.

What I especially liked was how Will Ferrells typically overbearing and obnoxious behavior has been toned down considerably here, perhaps for the purpose of making a movie for children. Hes still somewhat obnoxious and annoying (like in several other films) but its honestly not THAT bad.

Interesting moment when they played Seals and Crofts "Summer Breeze". Literally 15 minutes before this song was played I was actually thinking about that band because their greatest hits album cover shows a picture of the two of them standing on a piece of land similar to the one in this movie. Just a big coincidence.

Overall, a pretty good film. Its funny, its adventurous, and its worth purchasing.
Funnier than expected     On: 2010-03-23

3.4 stars

Its a Will Ferrell movie, with Kenny Powers! That pretty much sums up LOTL, for better and for worse.

(And if you dont know who Kenny Powers is, run dont walk to watch the first and so far only season of Eastbound And Down, one of the funniest tv comedies of the past decade. It blows this movie out of the water.)

I expected to laugh less at this, in fact, but McBride and Ferrell have good chemistry and similar senses of humor that meld well, and they made me crack up quite a bit here. There are of course the requisite dumb laughs aplenty, but there are also some rather clever takes on modern culture and technology.

Its only partly based on the old tv series, so dont expect much congruity. LOTL is played strictly for larfs, not suspense or romance (though those are here in small doses), and on that level its a success. A self-mocking summer blockbuster, it has enough funny moments and groan-inducing gags to make it well worth watching for any fan of Wills or Dannys (though he really does seem to play Kenny in every role to a large degree, especially when he gets zonked on those weird plants here).

I laughed more at this than I did at Step Brothers and a number of other recent Ferrell efforts, and its much better than The Goods and other recent hopeless farces. All in all, LOTL is my favorite Ferrell in a long time. Which aint great, but its purty good.
'Matt Lauer Can Suck It' by Dr. Rick Marshall - Blu ray review     On: 2010-02-28

A remake of Sid and Marty Kroffts Land of the Lost TV show. Your take on the movie will depend on how you feel about the show. If you thought the show was great science fiction (you were probably high watching it or 7 years old), than this isnt for you. Most people who remember how bad the show was will get this! It is funny! Comedy master Will Ferrell is as a washed up scientist, who gets vindicated when his expedition takes a wrong turn. Now, he and his smoking hot assistant Holly and a dumb as nails redneck named Will, with no weapons and limited smarts must survive a world full of smart dinosaurs and weird creatures. If they cant, Will Ferrell will never be able to stick it in Matt Lauers face!!!

This is an enjoyable slapstick comedy. The visuals are great as well. The dinosaurs in the movie would make Spielberg cry! Bottom line, if you are into sophisticated comedies...steer clear of this! This is a must own for Will Ferrell fans.

NOW FOR MY BLU RAY THOUGHTS: Universal rocks! The picture is outrageous! The sound is fantastic. All the special features are ported over from the DVD. FINAL VERDICT: UPGRADE WORTHY!
lets just turn it into a comedy, yeah, that will make big bucks right?     On: 2010-02-27

There is something about Hollywoods relentless drive to take any old script from a somewhat serious 70s childrens show and turn it into a comedy. Gosh knows why. Lack of imagination? Lack of drive? I mean, if you really took the effort to take a show like the land of the lost and make it into a serious movie it would certainly generate lots of money for those who grew up in that era and would watch it purely for the nostalgia. Sigh, anyway, Hollywood has their own version of mathematics: turn a fun, nostalgic kids show from the 70s into a comedic pile of garbage and alienate the fans and ruin the franchise potential and loose a couple of million dollars and then scratch their heads and say "gosh, why didnt that work". Simply put, dont watch this movie.
Great Buy!     On: 2010-02-22

I ordered this as a girt, and it arrived safely, well packaged and even sooner than they said it would. Much easier than shopping in the mall.
Bad fit.     On: 2010-02-21

Aside from the fact the comedy itself is bad my main beef with this movie is that LOTL is supposed to be a scifi genre. This was not scifi but very poorly done comedy. I cant believe they took a somewhat decent show and ripped it to shreds. Hopefully someday a remake that does justice to the series will be done.
Negative five stars     On: 2010-02-06

This has to be one of the worst shows I have seen in years. I bought it on sale thinking if it is only rental worthy I did not spend to much more then that to own it. Bad idea, it is not even worth the rental/PPV fee. I dont consider Will Ferrell to be a good actor at all but I had high hopes that this would be at least a B movie given the shows roots from a 70s series, it is not, it was a total waste of time to watch it. If someone really wants to see it I would advise to wait until it is free on TV, it just isnt worth money to watch.
Land of the Lost     On: 2010-02-06

This is an interesting spin on the old Saturday morning cartoon. It definitely has an adult theme though, and many excellent special effects.
Very Mildly Entertaining ... But Why This Remake?     On: 2010-02-05

Because of the device "Tachyon Amplifier" he invented, Dr. Rick Marshall (Will Ferrell) is whisked into another dimension with the doctors avid fan Holly (Anna Friel) and the "tour guide" Will (Danny McBride). To return to their world, the three hapless travelers must retrieve the time-warp machine they lost on the way. In this (intentionally) strange alternate universe the trio save the life of a primate "Chaka" (Jorma Taccone), who befriend them and joins the party. They are in for some adventures like attacks from dinosaurs, before they encounter other weird creatures in this "cosmic lost and space."

You may find the premise intriguing, but actually, the story of "Land of the Lost," a remake of the 70s TV show, doesnt know where it is going. Like "Lost in Space" (1998), another TV show remake, the feature-film version has talented cast and reasonable special effects, but the film itself looks pointless. What does it really want to be? It is not a family picture as it contains some crude sexual jokes (not that I disagree with that). It seems more than one person gets killed (off-screen), but this is not an adventure film. Maybe this is a sci-fi film (you will hear the voice of Leonard Nimoy as The Zarn). Or maybe not.

Perhaps the best way to describe "Land of the Lost" is it is a Will Ferrell film. "Land of the Lost" has scored seven Razzie nominations (that includes two of his), but actually I found the film is not that bad. Certainly same old stale jokes are rehashed in this sci-fi comedy action and director Brad Silberling adds nothing new to the hackneyed formula, but the film remains mildly entertaining thanks to the three actors who deliver the goods. As to "Chaka," well, he is slightly less irritating than Jar Jar Binks. Just slightly.

While "The Land of the Lost" is not a great film, "it is not a total mess, either. It only made me fell like, "Why is this remake necessary?
Will Farrell is a funny guy...     On: 2010-02-02

This is a dumb, but funny movie. Its just makes you laught and have a good time.
Surprisingly Hilarious     On: 2010-02-01

This movie is hilarious. I rented it two days before Christmas Eve when everything else was already out. I laughed until I cried. I knew then I had to add it to my movie collection. I have watched it several times with my family since receiving it. Highly recommended. Do not let its rating fool you. It does have some adult references, but no nudity or horribe language. Perfect movie for a night in with the wife and teenagers.
OK, You Lost Me!     On: 2010-01-18

OK, You Lost Me!

A parody of the 1975 Sid and Marty Krofft show Land of the Lost (who were also co-producers of this 2009 film) has Will Ferrell as Dr. Rick Marshall, a renowned paleontologist, who has discovered Tachyons and how to alter space - time and end up in an alternate dimension.

He appears on Matt Lauers show and is promptly panned and sprayed with a fire extinguisher.

Oh no, it gets worse.

Anna Friel plays the adoring Cambridge drop-out (actually kicked out) who pulls Dr. Marshall out of the fourth grade class he is presenting his theories to, and they decide to test his machine which will theoretically send him into another dimension.

They find a cave with a guide and they all go into the a boat and row their way in. Theres a great earthquake (great as the world has ever known) and they end up in the Land of the Lost, complete with a T-Rex and some Sleesaks and Chaka, who has a thing for Holly Cantrells breasts. Keep your hands off!

Will pouring dinosaur urine on your body make you blend in with the dinosaur crowd? Find out here! Can you get stoned at a hotel pool and want to French your monkey? Find out here!

Notable notes: When Dr. Marshall plays his song on a banjo in apology (long story) its actually the lyrics of the original 70s show. Of course in the original show Holly is a little girl so I guess there are some compensations.

The movie is so bad, its good. Obviously the actors are not scared or even concerned about a T-Rex breathing down their necks. And when the Sleesaks bear their teeth, they hardly run.

The desert area is strewn with unwanted objects: crashed saucers, 57 Chevys and a Kodak Film drive-in box. I remember those. Drop off your film and get your pictures in 24 hours. They are now in the Land of the Lost!

Acting is as campy as you can get. And Matt Lauer gets his at the end as well.

Its a rental. At 2.99 on Amazon, I paid too much!

Best to get the original Syd & Marty Kroffts 70s show.

Land of the Lost: The Complete Series
Maybe the worst movie I've ever seen     On: 2010-01-15

Land of the Lost stars Will Ferrell, as Rick Marshall, a scientist. It was so bad, I left the theater 20 minutes into it. First off, whats up with the cheesy special effects? (aliens) I guess thats supposed to be funny, but its not. Right before I walked out, a dinosaur was running after them, and they stoped to take a picture, so that they had proof, of this new world. Yeah. I will tell you straight up that Im not a Will Ferrel fan, so maybe this wasnt for me. But this is so utterly dull, uninteresting, boring, and idiotic, that I couldnt even watch it.
LOVED IT     On: 2010-01-15

Always loved THE LAND OF THE LOST original 1974 Acid & Marty Krofft show, even when walking around in pjs on a Saturday morning and watching it on our black n white TV. I bought the second season of the series not long ago. So I knew I had to see this. And even though Will Ferrel is usually hit and miss with me (more often miss than hit), I thought this was the best thing hes done in a long time! And really, its kind of a clever spin/spoof on the original that does manage to generate a fair amount of interest even in terms of an adventure story. Its great seeing how they come up with things that we know from the original. The dinosaur was certainly fierce, well-done, and filled in nicely for Grumpy. I thought the Zarn guy, Enic, could have been a little more convincing, a little closer to the original perhaps. Finally, the story stayed true to the original not in its comedy flavor, but just in how whacked out it was falling in and out of this dimension and that one - the original Land of the Lost is true sci-fi (albeit on low budget). This one also managed to bring forth and add some new twists to the old "routine expedition" gone terribly awry. And terribly ridiculous as well. I think this movie was a great idea.
FUN WITH THE BRAIN OFF     On: 2010-01-15

LAND OF THE LOST

I knew way before the viewing of this took place that this film would not be for everybody. You could just tell that it would be crazy and well just plain fun. Thankfully I was aware that I should not go into this with high expectations [thanks Mr.KIA]. Thanks to the warning I believe that I was able to enjoy this more so than I would have. With that said this is not a classic but if you watch it with the brain off it is fun. Staring of course Will Ferrell, Anna Friel, Danny McBride, and Jorma Taccone the cast really helps this one out. Still fun will be had if you go in with no expectations and the brain off.

Dr. Rick Marshall [Ferrell] is a crazy and weird minded guy, or so the science community believes. Years have gone by since they booted him from his lifes work on time warps and such and reduced him to a school teacher. That is until Holly Cantrell [Friel] walks into his classroom and into his life. The thing about her is that she believes in not only his theories but also in him. After an eating binge takes place he finishes his tachyon amplifier or whatever it is and off they are to find a site where it will work. They find it at a seemingly abandoned tourist attraction. But in order to get to the part they need they must take a boat tour with their guide Will Stanton [McBride]. One thing leads to another and they end up in you guessed it, the land of the lost. It is here that they meet Cha-Ka [Taccone] and all the fun starts to happen. They learn that they are part of a bigger adventure then once thought, dinosaurs included.

The film is far from perfect like the characters never seem to build up any before they are in the Lost Land, except maybe Will Stanton. But Holly in particular appears out of nowhere and the story immediately kicks off. Thats another thing about this film, it just kinda starts but I guess that is part of the fun. The writers did a good enough job but it seemed like they didnt know which way they wanted to go with this. Still there is some good stuff in here and the director [as he says in the commentary] did include a lot of stuff from the series, see if you can find them all. So there are problems but there are some funny moments to be had, particularly the cast saves this one.

Star Will Ferrell is actually perfect for this type of role and plays the dim witted yet somehow smart scientist with ease. In fact if anyone thinks any different I would say the writing for the characters is off more so than the actors. Anna Friel is good in her role as well and does a good job as the woman infatuated with the good Dr. still her character was rushed in but once again a writing error. While both of them are great in this film Danny McBride, and Jorma Taccone seem to be show stealers in this. Jorma is great as Cha-ka and is one of the more entertaining things about this film. Danny is absolutely hilarious at least to me in this movie and provides some of the best moments. Like when he posses for a picture when a giant T-Rex is about to eat them, or when he gives a big heartfelt speech about joining Rick in battle [youll see]. I dont know but I found him hilarious in this, just me I guess.

Like I said earlier this is not a perfect film and does have some problems but if you go in just wanting to have fun, you will. I was able to get the warning ahead of time [thanks again KIA] so I enjoyed it. I do recommend this film but go in with no expectations and not expecting the show to be duplicated. The film is fun and the performances are fun as well, I say check it out as a rental at least and see from there. Also this film was made for fans of the series who are grown now [at least the original viewers] so they should get the nice throwbacks to the original show. Still it is fun enough for new viewers.

Land of the Lost     On: 2010-01-10

Product arrived fine, good shape etc. Movie itself was just okay. NOT one of Will Farrows best.
Yes, it's directed at the series' fans! They're adults now!     On: 2010-01-06

Marshall, Will, and Holly, on a routine expedition, met the greatest earthquake ever known,... but this isnt the same Marshall, Will, and Holly. Instead of a father with his two children being turned into a stone-age Swiss Family Robinson, here we have Dr. Rick Marshall, an arrogant paleontologist with a theory about parallel dimensions that ruins his career until his fire is rekindled by sexy Brit Holly Cantrell, a newbie scientist who is fascinated with his work. Together, they follow Marshalls tachyon amplifier invention to a roadside tourist trap in the desert that proves to hide a vortex to a parallel world: the Land of the Lost! Along with the tourist trap proprietor, redneck rebel Will Stanton, Marshall and Holly travel to the mysterious land where they encounter a T-Rex named Grumpy, a plethora of vicious lizard-men called Sleestaks, and a monkey-man named Cha-Ka who joins their little group. The explorers, fascinated at first, soon find themselves frequently running for their lives while questing to recover Marshalls invention and save a Sleestak leader and his people. Its constantly bizarre, but very hilarious and loads of fun!

"Land of the Lost" is unquestionably for fans of Will Ferrell. If you dont like him, youre not going to like this film. Its great for fans of the old TV show if you can handle the re-imagining of the human characters (all the other elements are there), but Will Ferrell haters just arent going to like this (why some Ferrell fans dont like it, I cannot imagine)! It helps if youre a Danny McBride and Anna Friel fan too. This film is all about them and the wacky situations and characters that inhabit the Land of the Lost. The effects are excellent and so is everything else. Yes, its loaded with "adult humor", as one expects from the cast, but its very funny and doesnt feel like retreading old ground. Not like yet another American Pie sequel or rip-off. I suppose, at the heart of the issue that made this film a flop is that A: A lot of people didnt watch the old show, and B: most of those who did wanted the leads to be more like the originals. Oh well. Discover this one on your own, because if you love Will Ferrell and especially the old Land of the Lost shows, this film should be perfect for you!

The Blu-Ray looks fantastic and includes deleted scenes, fun, funny, and informative featurettes that include interviews with the original "Land of the Lost" creators, Sid and Marty Krofft, and a director commentary. Well worth owning and with a fantastic ending too!

So stupid it's almost good     On: 2010-01-06

2.5 Stars. Yes, this is a very stupid movie, intentionally so, but, even so, it was kind of funny. Would I spend money to buy this? No. Would I watch this more than once? No. Even so, Will Ferrell saves the movie from being a complete disaster.

Not recommended.
Great movie! OK DVD! Good memories!     On: 2009-12-30

Before I start the review let me point out that I am a huge fan of the Land of the Lost television series. Also, outside of SNL, I have never watched Will Ferrell. Nor did I know anything about the acting styles or comedy methods of Danny McBride and Jorma Taccone. I have seen Anna Friel before, in a few episodes of Pushing Up Daisies, but thats it. I love science fiction and I love weird, wild, twisted stories that force you to think.
After saying all that, you now know why I enjoyed the movie. I am not tired of any of the stars, having never been exposed to them in a full length feature before. I enjoy the twisted setting that is Land of the Lost and was willing to dive right into the landscape and story. I enjoyed seeing a part of my childhood put into a modern movie and I frankly spent most of my time laughing my head off. Lots of add-lib by the actors.
True, lots of sexual humor, crude jokes and bad language, with one scene on which many of the characters get smashed out of their minds. In other words they get high. But it is PG-13, so you should not be surprised. Nice extras, would have liked more, but the commentary by the director was OK.

Not So Good     On: 2009-12-29

This movie could have been so much better. The makers of this movie had a television series to base the show on and still managed to make this a crappy waste of time.I feel they let the viewers down that had actually watched the series as kids.Land of the Lost movie not even worth the rental fees.Save your money and wait for Avatar to come out.Avatar is a good movie.
Missed their Audience     On: 2009-12-28

I enjoyed this film more than I thought I would and more than it probably deserved. The excessive innuendo and language prevents it from being the great family vehicle (ala Scooby Doo) that it could have/should have been. The circumstances and performances are overtly silly, which is really whats fun and funny about it. But the excessively crude and juvenile jokes demean the merits of the entire project. I really think the screenwriters missed thier audience with this one. I know my 6 year old nephew was heartbroken when he saw the BD sitting on the shelf and found out that he couldnt watch it. He loves anything with dinosaurs. And, essentially, the film plays exactly like the live-action Scooby Doo movies - silly, action-packed, and fun for forgiving and/or nostalgic eyes. The action jokes are often hilarious. Where the story misses its mark is with the verbal laughs. The screenplay is far too crude, mean, and vulgar for younger audiences, those that have parents that actually monitor what they can watch anyway. Rather it seems mostly appealing to a teenage mentality that laughs at anything as long as a four-letter-word is involved or a little sexual aspersion. But, I think that those same teens that might laugh at the crassness of the humor, would probably cringe at the films elementary premise. This seems like one of those rare times, when the studio possibly should have stepped in and said, "Hey! What are you thinking?!!"

Its too bad they didnt use Blu-rays massive storage capacity to implement a kid-friendly version on the disc. It would have been so easy to substitute most, if not all of the offending material with something less offesive. Otherwise the Blu-ray is great. It looks and sounds terrific, as expected. Though it seems over-priced considering the same studio has shown that they can justify the expense of including a DVD and/or digital copy with their releases for even less.
Pathetic     On: 2009-12-11

Pathetic might actually be giving this film too much credit. As I watched this movie I kept thinking "This is supposed to be a
comedy, somewhere along the line there just has to be something in here that is funny, not just stupid." Well, I stand corrected.
There wasn`t. That about says it all.

WARNING!: NOT! FOR! CHILDREN! OR YOUNG ADULTS! HORRIFIC VILE/DIRTY INNUENDOS - HORRIBLE GARBAGE - INSULTING/DEMEANING FILTH!!     On: 2009-12-09

Aside from being a meaningless plotless poorly written movie, the worst is that is is just a Horrible, filthy and dirty piece of senseless garbage. There is really nothing funny about this movie.

Will farrell has crossed the line in waht is hopefully his exit from movies. This movie is not worth watching. WE shut it off and sent it back with a letter, demanding a refund for this vile and filthy piece of trash.

Farrell, who had a lot of say in the making of this incorrectly rated dirty filth, may think it funny to teach his children to use the S word and the F word casually, should keep his sickness away from innocent and gullable movie-goers.

PARENTS SHOULD HAVE BEEN WARNED ABOUT THIS EXTREMELY INAPPROPRIATE MOVIE GARBAGE FILLED WITH VERY UPSETTING FILTH!!!

This movie was so bad, again, we stopped it and sent it back to let amazon know. What a horrendous and shocking exploitation of the consumer. Where is the warning label for such dirt.

Is hollywood just to make a quick dollar and not care about the hurtful effects a movie like this can cause.

Be very leary and run from anyone who would give this filth any credit.

Amazon needs a zero star category for ferrell, kroft brothers and anyone who had anything to do with this movie.

People need to be warned about such bad and waste of time movies like Ferrells.

Will never attend or buy anything Ferrell again.

Spielbergs movie is worth it, he s a class act and would never ever condone such a drty and vulgar film as this.

God help us all!

Hey da!
This movie was a waste of money!!!     On: 2009-12-08

I love Will Farrell but the director didnt do him any favors with lame acting! The story sucked, the acting was lame...they paid him 20+ million for what?

Dont waste your time or money on this one.
Horrible     On: 2009-12-05

Movie remakes of TV Shows need to actually follow the story, or at least mirror what happened from the original show. The original Land Of The Lost TV Show was cheesy at best, but this film is just dumb. Its not funny. The story is just a movie that has the title "Land of the Lost" so people who liked the TV series will watch it. Dont waste your time or money.
Have To Be A Fan Of Orginal Show     On: 2009-12-02

As my childhood began in the 1970s, I loved watching the original show. The remake in the early 1990s was good too. However, this movie cant appeal to the general public.

I never watched it, until I bought the DVD. The acting/comedy was weak; the storyline respected the original show. As a fan of the original show, the movie appealed to me. Other than that, movie fans will call it a dud.

Will Farrell did his best, but it couldnt save the weak comedy. He was a fan of the original show and looks like he had fun. The only salvagable part, was they made it home. Unlike the TV series, it left fans hanging; as to whether the Marshalls/Porters made it home. (Rick Marshall made it back, but Uncle Jack was stranded). Appeals to original fans, but not others.
land of lost     On: 2009-12-01

this is funny good movie and if your a fan of time travel in the fourth dimension then this is for you thats why i liked it so much, plus will ferrell is funny in a unique way. ferrel style is different
Barf Bag, Please!....     On: 2009-12-01

Will Has Overstayed His 15 Minutes Of Fame By 14..!....I Stopped Watching SNL Long Ago...Hes One Of The Reasons Why!...Wills In A Class All By Himself....Unfortunatly Its Kindergarden..!...This "Film" Belongs In The Buck Bin At The Box Store..!.Avoid This Pox On The Planet!..The Grande Kazoo Has Spoken!
Terrible and a waste of time and money     On: 2009-11-29

This is the worst movie you will ever watch...no plot, no story, terrible casting and nothing to do with the original series. Ugh. It sucks.
TWO STARS FOR WILL FERRELL!......AND THAT'S GENEROUS!     On: 2009-11-27

Well I guess I didnt expect much from a film based on a low budget Saturday morning TV show, but this has got to be Ferrells worst film to date. Sure the effects look pretty good with some nice dinosaurs and the Sleestaks, but the jokes that work are few and far between. If not for Ferrell, I dont think I would have laughed at all. Not only is the film bland, but it doesnt even know who its audience is, with some jokes that are very juvenile and others that are crude and may not be suitable for younger viewers. Im not saying its unwatch-able, but there are so many better films out there than this boring turd. I didnt expect much, but with Will Ferrell I at least expect to laugh!
"Do You Ever Get Tired Of Being Wrong?"     On: 2009-11-04

The 2009 release Land of the Lost is yet another film in a long line of films whose success or failure is dependent on Will Ferrells comedic talents to win over the audience. If you enjoy what Will does youll most likely adore this film. If you dont, well you know how that goes. I will say that I went into viewing this one not expecting much. I believe my low expectations actually helped me enjoy it more than I otherwise would have.

"Land of the Lost contained all the expected elements found in a Will Ferrell film; lots of slapstick and physical comedy, moments of surprisingly inappropriate material for the adolescent members of the audience and of course large doses of Wills character (Dr. Rick Marshall) rambling on in a narcissistic frenzy about his personal greatness and unrecognized genius. With these egotistical pontifications so prevalent in all of his films one must eventually begin to wonder just how much of this behavior is extracted from real life?

Be that as it may, the storyline is rather cute, the special effects very good and Dr. Marshalls love interest played by Anna Friel was, shall I say, delightful. All and all worth at least one viewing.
A Box Full of Laughter     On: 2009-11-03

I went into this movie not expecting much, but still held moderate hopes for it beign the fan of Will Ferrell that i am. Sometimes i found myself wondering if Ferrell was just improving, but then concluded that even if he was, it was still hilarious. Its definitely worth watching, its classic Will Ferrell. If you like his sense of humor youll like this movie, if you find yourself annoyed by it, then obviously this movie isnt for you.
The movie was positively dreadful     On: 2009-10-29

I didnt have high hopes for this film, seeing how it was a bomb at the box office. Now I know why. Seems they put a lot of money into effects and then just let Will Ferrell and Danny McBride kinda improv through the entire thing. They miss more than they hit, thats for sure. I imagine if you were sitting a room of half drunk frat boys, itd be hilarious, but I barely cracked a smile through the whole thing. Its unfortunate also that the old series was family oriented and this is barely one step below R-rated humor. Skip this film (like most people did when it came out) and rent the original series instead.
funny     On: 2009-10-27

I thought the movie would be stupid. But it was so freaking hilarious. And effects were amazing. I loved it. A+
Put Me To Sleep     On: 2009-10-26

Okay, we all know that Will Ferrell movies are pretty hit and miss.I was very surprised at how much I loved "Step Brothers". Maybe I needed to be more familiar with the original T.V series to appreciate this movie, but I dont think so.I do like Will Ferrell allot, going back to his SNL days, so believe me, I wanted to like this flick. WARNING: Not for pre-teen children.
Warped tale should get lost and stay there     On: 2009-09-20

Short Attention Span Summary (SASS):

1. Bad dialogue
2. Bad acting
3. Bad script
4. Bad movie - bad, bad movie!

Need I say more?

Ferrell and company lamely limp their way through this uninspired big screen version of a seventies TV series.

So horrid are the dialogue and plot that this movie makes Brendan Frasers "Journey to the Center of the Earth" look like a National Geographic special.

The end result of watching this tale of a time-warp -adventure-gone-stupid is a splitting headache from trying to keep your eyebrows in your head.

This is one that should remain lost.

MY 700TH REVIEW!!!!!!!     On: 2009-09-08

Land of the Lost is the first movie I saw three times at the theatre! I loved it that much! I watched the original series so that I could see the similarities and the differences. I cant believe so many people hate it. I dont love it just because Will Ferrell is in it, I really love the storyline, and the gags, and the hilarious situations that Dr. Rick Marshall, Will, and Holly get into.

Will Ferrell stars as Dr. Rick Marshall who has a theory about time warps. Nobody believes him, until he meets Holly Cantrell, who urges him to create a tachyon amplifier to enable time warp travel. They try it at an attraction and it actually works. They meet the greatest earthquake ever known and plunged down a thousand feet below! They are transferred to a world where past, present, and future are blended together. They must deal with a T-Rex named Grumpy, befriend a Pakuni named Cha-Ka, and try to stop an evil Sleestak named Enik from gaining control of the tachyon amplifier and destroying Earth. In my opinion, this is an awesome, incredible, fantastic, cool, hilarious, Oscar-worthy movie!!! I highly recommend LAND OF THE LOST!!!!!!!

p.s. Its been awesome writing 700 reviews, and look forward to writing 700 more!

danny mcbride is the best     On: 2009-08-26

IMO Danny McBride totally steals the scenes in the film. He has the funniest lines and delivers his lines the best.
I recommend this to any Danny Mac fans out there =)
