Great, but not as great as original.     On: 2008-11-07

Overall, this is one of the better sequels out there. The animation is wonderful and I love the soundtrack. This really keeps my 2 year olds attention and he loves Woody and Buzz. I think the first Toy Story was a little bit more unique/original/quippy, but this is great, too.
EXCELLENT     On: 2008-10-27

Very few sequels are as good as the first movie. But, I believe this movie is even better than the original. The creators of these movies are just SO TALENTED. The characters are just great. The writing is great. I even catch myself with a tear in my eye when Jessie tells her story about becoming an unwanted toy, and being given away when her little girl out grows her. It made me think of all the toys I outgrew and gave away. I hope I didnt hurt their feelings too badly! LOL
Anyway, my 4 year old twin girls love this movie. They have even talked about asking Santa for a Buzz Light Year and Woody doll this year.
As one of my girls say..."Buzz Light Year to the ress room, to imfimity and beyond!"
Our whole family enjoys this movie. A true classic!
Big Fun, Fascinating Facts...     On: 2008-10-24

There is simply no better way to own these two masterpieces of modern animation. Both films are funny, engaging, and surprisingly moving in some places, while technically they stand as perhaps the best modern animation has to offer. But the real stand-outs of the Ultimate Toy Box are the extras - this is the reason DVDs are made. The Toy Box treats the two films exhaustively, from conception, to execution, to production, to marketing and audience reception. It is like taking a crash course in animation and film making from people who love what they do. By the time you are done exploring the making of these two films through the excellent documentaries and commentaries included in this set, you will love animated film-making too. Well worth the money, especially if you can find it second-hand (the set is now out of print), this is a must-own for any animation, film, or DVD lover. Forget the recent two-disc special editions and get the original great set.
Satisfied     On: 2008-10-16

The movie arrived on time and works great. I would make another purchase from this seller.

Toy Story 2 - 2 Disc Set     On: 2008-09-28

Previously my children owned the Toy Story 2 VHS a while back. Over the years, somehow the VHS copy was lost. Since then, my kids have had to borrow copies from their friends as well on rent it from the local video store. When I saw this deal for the special edition 2 disc set on Amazon.com, I quickly jumped on it. Of course, the DVD quality is much better than the VHS. But an extra added bonus was the second DVD which included funny outtakes and a pretty decent game that the whole family enjoys playing. If youve been stalling to purchase this movie, now is the time to "lasso" it in. And while youre at it, why not pick up Toy Story 1 to complete the package.
The Godfather 2 of Animated Movies     On: 2008-09-18

The movie itself is one of the best CG animated ever made. The delivery of the product was amazingly fast and brand new, as described. Great seller.
We love this movie!     On: 2008-09-16

My kids (ages 4 and 6) and I love this movie. There is a little more adult humor in it (that goes over the kids heads, of course) and Id have to say that I enjoy it as much as Toy Story. Cant go wrong with this one.
Toy Story 2     On: 2008-09-08

This is a great sequel to the first Toy Story. I highly recommend it.
Great Kids Movie but don't buy used.     On: 2008-09-08

The kids love this movie since weve rented them both before but I bought a used copy and they were both scratched and didnt play all the way through without freezing.

Ill never buy from Amazon again.
As excellent as Toy Story 1!     On: 2008-08-30

You have to watch it. I enjoyed every dialog, every detail. Very well done. It comes as well in french and spanish. I was interested in spanish for my kids.
A Great Collection...     On: 2008-08-18

Toy Story is the movie that pioneered the CG animation phenomenon and has become a classic, worthy of everyones collection, not just those with children. Although the sequel was a much better film, you cant deny that without Toy Story, many other films would never have been made. Pixar proved it could be done and they continue to impress.

Toy Story 2, in my opinion a much better film than the original, deserved its Golden Globe win. It is cemented as one of the greatest animated films of all time. The best movies are those that can be viewed again and again and never get old. This is truly one of them.
Very good movie anytime     On: 2008-06-30

I bought this movie for my collection. It is very good, no matter how old it is. My kids and I enjoy the movie everytime we wath it.
Love it!     On: 2008-06-24

Not only do my 2 and 3 year old boys love this movie, mommy and daddy do too!
Finally a great price on Disney DVD     On: 2008-06-24

Yea, I have been wanting Toy Story 2 and now found it for a great price here on Amazon.
Toy Story 2 DVD Review     On: 2008-06-20

My son loves Toy Story and Toy Story 2. I personally think that the second movie is fun because there are new characters. Voices are funny and story line is good. I would recommend this movie for kids and for families.
Wow, look at those used prices!     On: 2008-06-04

I bought this back when it was $45 used, and I considered it a steal then. The Toy Story movies are absolute classics, no question about it. Even as computer animation gets better and better, these movies dont feel dated at all. (hint to Dreamworks: its because the movies are filled with rich characters, not weak pop-culture references masquerading as "jokes.")

There are better versions of the movies available, but the differences are small and the Toy Box is a bit cheaper than getting the other editions separately (as of 6/4/2008, at least). You miss out on a few special features, but most of the ones on the other editions are taken from this set. The picture quality is also ever-so-slightly better on the other editions (although picture quality is not a problem at all on this set).

It should also be mentioned that the DVD packaging on this set is beautiful. The DVDs come in standard cases housed in a silvery box with wireframe versions of some of the characters from the films printed on it. A clear plastice slipcase goes over that, with the fully-rendered versions of the characters replacing the wireframe versions. Its pretty clever, really.

The other editions are here, if you really must have the very best versions of them:
Toy Story (10th Anniversary Edition)
Toy Story 2 (Two-Disc Special Edition)
My kids love it!     On: 2008-05-27

Our VCR recently broke and rather than fixing it, we just decided to update our DVDs. Toy Story 2 was one of the movies we decided to purchase. We received it promptly, and the kids absolutely love it. It was shipped in excellent condition and I was very pleased with the seller.
Toy Story 2     On: 2008-04-26

I ordered this movie so that I could watch it on my Home Theatre system. Well, let me tell you--not only did the movie sound terrific in surround sound, it was actually an excellent movie.

Im 45 years old but, once I was able to get over the fact that this was an animated movie, I found the movie quite enjoyable. Im convinced that ADULTS of all ages would find TS2 very entertaining!

P.S. "The Incredibles" is another excellent animated movie. It also sounds great in Surround Sound!
life saver     On: 2008-04-06

This movie is a lifesaver for us. Our 3yr old loves to watch it, and it gives us a few minutes to ourselves.
It took a few days to come, and it was quick and easy to order. price was right also.
Toy story movie     On: 2008-01-07

I ordered a movie for my son who is almost three. he loves Toy Story, but tends to ruin movies really fast ("Let me do it") anyway we received it brand new, fast , and half the price of anuyu store.
My kid Loves it!!     On: 2008-01-07

Must have for any kids collection. Only setback is I have had to watch it over ten times in the past 2 weeks, thats how much my kid liked it, he is only 3.
Love it     On: 2008-01-07

My 5 year old son loves this movie. He has a lot of fun pretending to be Buzz Lightyear and going after Zurg. Its a great "good, clean, fun" movie. I highly recommend it.
Has Luxo Jr     On: 2007-12-26

OK this movie is a great movie probably as good as the first.

To clarify that some seem to be reviewing the 2 disc "Special Edition" and others the VHS.

It seems that Amazon lumps all the reviews for Toy Story 2 or even the Toy Story 2 pack (which has both 1 & 2) together and it makes it very confusing.

My Toy Story VHS does not have Tin Toy
My Toy Story 2 VHS does have Luxo Jr
My Bugs Life VHS has Geris story

Toy Story 10th Anniversary DVD release 2005 Does NOT have tin toy
Toy Story 2 Special edition DVD release 2005 does NOT have Luxo jr
I believe Disney decided to leave them out because they planned to release the PIXAR Shorts DVD. Also these have a sneak peak to CARS not Mosters Inc..

Toy Story 1 & 2 DVDs original releases 2000 and 2001 DO have tin toy and luxo jr respectively.
The Toy Story 2 Pack DOES contain Tin Toy and Luxo Jr

I dont know if the ultimate box has these pixar shorts but I suspect that they do because it was released in 2000 probably before Disney planned to release the Pixar Shorts on their on DVD.

Just to clarify that there are definite differences in the DVDs specials. Ultimate Box has a whole disc dedicated to the concept and making of TS.
Fun Romp for Adults and Children Alike     On: 2007-12-18

This is a wonderful animated feature for your movie collection. Enjoyed by kids and adults alike.
Best than the 1st     On: 2007-11-17

If your kid liked the 1st one, dont even think ... GET this one TOO!
Disney/PIXAR does it again.     On: 2007-11-01

Toy Story 2 is the perfect sequel. It recaptures everything from the first movie but still is able to up the stakes. The main characters return but a slew of new, and as interesting, charactes show up.

While ANdy is away at camp, Woody finds himself in a new pickle. A toy collector kidnaps him and introduces him to Roundup Gang. Its up to the rest of the toys, led by Buzz Lightyear, to recover Woody before Andy returns home.

This movie is great. Its great in every way. Its nearly a toss up as to which Toy Story you prefer. Theyre both great movies.

The two disc set is as packed as the first one. Theres deleted scenes, and outtakes. Also, a sneak peak at pictures next feature, and a new game "Which Toy Are You?"

Highly recommended.
Briefly, My Thoughts On Toy Story 2     On: 2007-10-30

Toy Story 2 is a superior sequel to the original Toy Story, but the segment about the child outgrowing her toys made me so sad I dont think I could stand to watch this movie again. That part of the film was maybe done a little too well by Toy Story 2s makers. Beyond that this Pixar instant classic is great.
rethinking the appropriateness of all these "modern, cgi classics"...teaches tots to be snide.     On: 2007-10-26

For many months, weve been allowing our tots to watch this movie (and other CGI-type "classics" like Monsters Inc, Toy Story I, Bugs Life). Of late, we realized, with horror, that our kids recent usage of snide and obnoxious remarks has been due to these "modern kids classics."---comments like "WHERES MY FOOD!!!" (courtesy of "Bugs Life"); "YOURE STUPID!"; "YOU IDIOT" (Toy Story); "YOU STINK"....and the like. Even Monsters, Inc. has the characters castigating, berating, ridiculing each other (especially by the villain Randall). In retrospect, all the Disney movies in our collection are tame by comparison, and far less objectionable if even at all. (e.g., Cinderella, Little Mermaid, etc). I wish wed stuck to safer products for toddlers, like the afore-mentioned Disney titles, or The Wiggles, Baby Einstein, Bob the Builder, etc. I choose politically correct but safe, over slyly entertaining and wickedly cutting-edge, any day! Those "modern classics" are great for adults, what with their modern spin, dialogue, etc----but why give the kids a head-start on learning objectionable phrases and vocabulary that theyre going to learn later from others? No one wants their kid to be the FIRST SOURCE of the poor habits and language being adopted by the other kids in the neighborhood and amongst the extended family.

Must own!     On: 2007-10-25

My son cant get enough of this movie, I swear we watch it 3 times a week! Anything with Buzz in it is a real hit here.
Awesome.. WAY, WAY Better Than Toy Story 1     On: 2007-09-16

Toy Story 2 is a great movie!! It would be my second favorite movie, only Monsters, Inc. being my all time favorite. By the way 2 is a lot better than 1. 1 was terrible. In this movie, Woody gets stolen by Al and what else is really exciting about this movie is that the characters go to a toy store, and a airport. Rex is my favorite character in this movie. 2 also makes me into laughter compared to 1 which was no
laughter. This movie kicks @$$!!! Get this DVD. But whatever you do, get Toy Story 2 along with Monsters, Inc. for a great movie collection. TS1 was awful!!

Great DVD! My 7-year-old grandsons and I loved it! A "must-have" for anyone who owns Toy Story 1.
Classics     On: 2007-04-05

How can you do better than both these movies for one low price? I love most everything by pixar, and these are no exception. Better yet, its great to watch these back to back, and see how the sequel really plays off of the first one so much. If youre reading this, you know how great it is, so stop reading and buy the movies.
Wonderful--- entertaining

I bought this movie for my 2 1/2 year old grandson. He loves it. He gets so excited when I put this on he makes believe hes Buzz Lightyear flying through the air. Its so funny I had to tape him watching the movie. I highly recommend Toy Story. Its a very enjoyable movie for adults too.

Playtime Fun
by: jpski3332002    On: 2007-03-11

`Toy Story 2 is a more fluid and intricate sequel than the original. Containing more sight gags and a myriad of peril, the toys come back to life for a new adventure. This time Woody (Tom Hanks) is unraveling, literally at the shoulder socket and not just highstrung. In danger of being sold or taken for granted by his boy owner, Andy, Woody, nevertheless, has the selflessness to pull a toy penguin out of the yard sale bin. In the meantime, a greedy toy collector steals him after the mother refuses to make a deal. As you might expect, the other toys sojourn out to rescue him. What makes it all fun is an attempt to find him at a local toy store, and a journey to the toy collectors high rise. Finding new toys like "Stinky Pete, the Prospector" (Kelsey Grammar) and a Cowgirl Jessie (Joan Cusack) add to the colorful fun. Witty and freewheeling, Toy Story 2 springs to life. Fun from start to finish, Toy Story only begs one question: Toys coming to life. Why didnt somebody think of it before?

Looking for a game console?     On: 2007-03-09

Disney didnt know my membership number from that Xbox 360 deal, so I went a different route and ordered it from Amazon. It is a really good movie that one can watch in loopedframeset, and brings Pixar to great movements of novelty with toys. On DVD this movie goes on many adventures and covers many different themes. The digital voices are taken from famous celebrities such as Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, and a host of others.
I really enjoyed the movie and am thankful to have bought it.
Lots of fun!     On: 2007-03-08

I was apprehensive after LOVING Toy Story 1 but this one is great too!
Good Fun!     On: 2007-02-08

This DVD with accompanying material is a great follow-up to Toy Story 1, and arguably less scary for young children. We have enjoyed watching it many times since receiving it.
Editorial review is right on the money!!!!!     On: 2007-01-30

499 positive reviews & continuing...This IS a MUST have to add to your dvd list. My children & husband & I watched this many many times & it never gets old. This will be a classic TO INFINITY AND BEYOND !!!
Daughter and I love it!
by: theramom    On: 2007-01-22

Every bit as good as the first one, defying the sequel law. My daughter didnt take any time at all to warm up to this one as much as to Toy Story 1.
As good as the first TS     On: 2007-01-18

Great movie, my 2-year old daughter loved it - that is the best barometer for success that I know, for these type films!
Two thumbs up!     On: 2007-01-09

Great show. My kids watch it all the time and easy for adults to watch over and over too!
toy story II     On: 2006-11-11

A great movie! My kids want to watch again and again...
Great Film and Worth the Purchase     On: 2006-07-05

This is a great DVD that our son loves to watch. I dont think it is as good as the original but sequels rarely are. Its certainly worth the purchase and has a lot of extras on the disc. I have seen it less expensive in other stores however.
Buzz & Woody Are Back     On: 2006-06-17

Yes its true and people didnt think it could be done, Buzz & Woody back for a second adventure. In this film Woody finds out the real reason why he was made, he was a character on a TV show and Woody is one of the last remaining dolls made for that TV show.
Woody is stolen by a rare toy collector when he accidentally ends up in a yard sale. So this time it is Buzzs mission to save Woody from being sold to a Japanese toy museum.
Along the way on this mission we encounter a few new toys who are also a part of the Woody toy collection. Jessie The Yodelin Cowgirl & Prospect Pete.
I cant say anymore than that because the rest is a secret just get this movie and ejoy it because it is just as good as the first if not better.
Excellent pick for all     On: 2006-05-17

Toy Story 2 is just as good as (or even better than) Toy Story 1. Great animation, very funny and teaches valuable lessons without the sadness. Some of the animated movies have scenes that are hard to watch, for example the opening scene in Finding Nemo or the beginning of Tarzan. My son watches those scenes in horror (and so do I). Toy Story 2 and Toy Story 1 have such an original storyline that is so endearing, and it is such a well rounded movie that it is an excellent pick for all. I also like the fact that the toys dont sing and dance as in most animated movies, and yet the music is excellent. I particularly love the song (composer: Randy Newman) when Buzz realizes he is just a toy and cant fly and tries to fly out the window. Me and my son play along to that part!
Even Better Than The First 'Toy Story'     On: 2006-05-04

Heres yet one more sequel that more than lived up to its original great start. The first Toy Story was outstanding. This is just as good, if not better.Very fast-paced and very entertaining, this doesnt have a lot of laugh-out-loud parts but is definitely fun to watch with many good lines. What I appreciated was the lack of a nasty villain and any evil overtones, as was the case with the rotten neighborhood kid in the first film.

I also appreciated the fantastic surround sound on the DVD (any of the Toy Story DVDs are great, by the way), along with the magnificent colors. Not to be forgotten is a wonderful, tear-jerking song in here, sung by Sarah MacLaclan. It gets to me every time.

When you factor in all the nice characters, music, colors and sounds, this has to be one of the most beloved animated films of the modern era.

Less is More?     On: 2006-04-07

All I can ask is What Idiot at Pixar Marketing made the decision to exclude the wonderful short Tin Toy from this edition; and Luxo Jr from Toy Story 1??? I have to keep the original DVDs because some Bonehead left out these?? With two discs youd think Pixar would make sure one got everything from the previous release. Nooo! Otherwise I love these guys, but someone really dropped the ball on this.
The better Toy Story Movie     On: 2006-02-25

I liked this movie better than the original Toy Story (which was great too). Oh, my kids liked it too - ha ha
The rare sequel eclipsing the original
by: canadian3    On: 2006-02-23

Disney ever since Snow White has rarely managed to disappoint. It may not have classic resonance but there was enough charm and likability to it that it was not a complete throwaway. After a gap which stopped with the Little Mermaid, Disney did one great film after another ending(arguably with the Lion King although Mulan and Hercules had its moments). Once Lion King stopped, an odd shift happened where the great Disney films were now Pixar made. So Pixar on their 3rd film, decided to revisit the characters of their first classic and ends up with a great film surpassing the original.

The gang are still in Andys room although Woody ends up getting his arm slightly ripped which causes Woody to end up on the shelf. He meets Wheezy the penguin who gets thrown out for yard sale. Woody decides to rescue Wheezy but gets toynapped(just had to make that wordplay, sorry) by a greedy toy collector named Al. Woody was part of a national craze in the 50s and Al just completed his collection. So its up to Buzz and gang to save Woody, who maybe doesnt want to be saved.

What always makes Pixar films great is the heart: we CARE about these characters. When new toy Jessie tells her backstory of her previous owner, you cant help but sympathize with her. Its quite a delicate mix between story, character, comedy and even action and they still manage to pull it off. And we can certainly understand Woodys predicament: live forever in mint condition but never experiencing human touch ever, or experience a short-but-memorable childhood of his owner.

One thing that was really irritating me about recent Disney films is that whos-who in Hollywood syndrome, where big massive stars lend their voice. Do I care that Mel Gibson was in Pocahontas? Or Demi Moore in Hunchback of Notre Dame? Not really. Toy Story 2 has big names but we never get annoyed by the star power since theyre good at their characters. Also of note is to some new people like Kelsey Grammar and Joan Cusack for being believable and quite rambunctious on Joans part.

I grew up in the era where computer effects hadnt started but that they were going to be a big thing. Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast had CG but it was very minimal at times. While it is disappointing fewer and fewer people are still doing traditional hand drawn animation, its still quite something to see the power of CG and Toy Story 2 shows some of its potential. Backgrounds, color, detail are better, even the humans which didnt look great in part I.

One thing I am glad about is that we can still find previous films like Finding Nemo and A Bugs Life on stands unlike Disney which has its much-maligned "vault". I missed out on completing my Platinum series(so far) by not getting Beauty and the Beast and Snow White and now theyre back in the vault. So while you can take your time with Toy Story 2, dont wait and just go get it and enjoy it.

and lots more you must see this movie.
Buy me!     On: 2006-02-01

This movie is arguably better than the first. It doesnt change any facts from the previous movie. Where the first movie focused on character development for Buzz, this one gives us a little more of Woody.

The DVD extras are well worth it. I highly suggest the Outtakes. Those are always a laugh. Also check out the intro about the new character Wheezy.
Toy Story 2 Review     On: 2006-01-31

Excellent movie, Pixar demonstrated the quality of its work with this product. The edition in DVD is not the exception, the image quality, sound, packaging and presentation are extraordinary.
obsessed fans     On: 2006-01-31

My little kids love this movie. They became fans after the first toy story, but now they are truly obsessed. Its amazing what they did with the animation, and the story line is enjoyable, even for adults. A must-get if you have children.
Toy Story 2     On: 2006-01-30

this is one of the MUST HAVE DVD if you want something that is both good in picture and sound quality. i love the bonus disc which actually explains the sound effect mixing.. :)
Great for older children/adults, ok for the younger set     On: 2006-01-30

I bought this DVD for my son (4 years old)because he loved Toy Story so much. My daughter (21 months) also liked Toy Story. At the beginning of the movie, my daughter was scared and started crying...then you figure out its a game. Later, my son got upset because they took Woody and he was being "sent away". Then he cried because Slinky Dog got separated from the other group of toys. It is because of this that I give it 4 stars. My husband and I thought this was a great movie. Just reserve it for older kids viewing.
good sequel
by: egreen75964    On: 2006-01-30

Nothing compares to the Shrek & Shrek II series. The Toy Story and Toy Story II series is second. My 3 yr old absolutely loves this movie and has made a great gift also.
Disappointing     On: 2006-01-30

O.K., so somepeople might not mind this but for me its really annoying that the out takes were taken out of the credits. Ive watched Toy Story 2 many times with my daughter on tape borrowed from her older cousins. We both liked to watch the credits at the end of the film. Now, you have to get out the second disc to see the outtakes. The rest of the film is still funny, but Barbie just isnt there in the end to say "bu-bye, now, bu-bye".
Toy Story 2

I have Both Toy Stories, but their obselete VHSs. I would love to get Toy Story and Toy Story 2 on DVD,with The Incredibles,Monsters Inc.
Just as good as the first!     On: 2006-01-09

My kids were so crazy about the first Toy Story that I rushed to pick up Toy Story II as soon as it was released. Pixar did an outstanding job on this movie. Most of the original cast participated in this project and did a great job. Once again, Buzz (Tim Allen) and Woody (Tom Hanks) steal the show. The addition of Joan Cusak as Jessie is a real treat. My kids now call this movie "The Woody Girlfriend Movie."

The story line is amusing. Woody gets stolen by a Toy Collector and Buzz and the gang go on a journey to rescue him.

This movie is great for kids and parents alike.

"TWO WORDS...SPACE TOYS!"     On: 2006-01-01

What could be better than the 2-disc "Toy Story"? Well, you can try the equally-superb "Toy Story 2" in the same 2-disc format. Yes, your Pixar collection is now complete thanks to this, the movie that took Woody and Buzz to places no toy had yet gone before.
As with the first installment, the movie looks and sounds terrific thanks to a cleaned-up print and, again, the good work of sound master Gary Rydstrom. You can see the bright toy colors and clickety-clack sounds like new. Also, the computer process had advanced enough by now that both the human characters and the action settings looked more realistic- especially the airport in the final segments.
"Toy Story 2" also boasts a very clever story line thats both a loving throwback to vintage kiddie shows and good-
natured satire on both mega-toy stores and collectible mania. Both are exemplified in a wacky new character, Al the Toy Guy (voice of Wayne Knight), the rotund and manic toy retailer whos also crazy about his "Woodys Roundup" memorabilia.
"Woodys Roundup"? Heres what I really love about this movie. The greatest old-time kiddie show never aired, this is "Howdy Doody" meets "Hopalong Cassidy" and Woodys unknown-to-Andy roots. Through a roomful of 50s-style toys, a kinescope-
style flashback, three new come-to-life characters and a nifty cowboy-style theme song, Pixars John Lasseter and his team create a delightful homage to vintage childrens TV. The collectible part? Als made a lucrative deal to deliver Woody and the gang, personally, to a Japanese toy museum.
Between the mysterious disappearance of Woody and the exciting rescue from a Tokyo-bound jet, we revisit all the much-
loved characters from the first "Toy Story". Particularly funny are Hamm (John Ratzenberger), the gruff piggy bank, and both Mr. and Mrs. Potato Head. Estelle Harris makes the latter into a classic Brooklyn Jewish/Edith Bunker mother, a perfect match for Don Rickles ("Im a married spud!"). Of course, of all the things Tom Hanks and Tim Allen have done, its their wonderful Woody-and-Buzz banter that might last longer than anything. Dont miss a fusty (is he anything else?) Kelsey Grammer as Stinky Pete the Prospector, either.
The format of this edition is identical to the one for the first "Toy Story", with a great batch of bonus items on Disc 2. Character and set-design galleries give you a detailed look at how elaborate film construction unfolds. Lasseters the proverbial kid in the candy store as he displays all those cheesy "Woodys Roundup" toys. Rydstroms back with a game that lets you see how sound mixing works. Theres even a welcome appearance by Riders in the Sky, a veteran Western-billy band that does a lively "Roundup" medley. Both that song and "When She Loved Me", Jessie the cowgirls soft, nostalgic ballad (sung by Sarah McLachlan), were penned- as was all Pixar-related music until 2002- by the wonderful Randy Newman.
"Toy Story 2"- and "Toy Story", too!- are movies whose appeal is across the board, easy enough for four-year-olds, witty enough for college kids, and well-drawn (both design and character) enough for literate adults. Theyre, as I like to say, "awesomely simple". The beauty of Pixar is that, though the technology, bells and whistles get ever more sophisticated, they never lose track of making movies that are about strong characters and realistic situations- whether theyre working with piggy banks or one-eyed green monsters. What more could a movie maker or viewer ask for?
Were told that a "Toy Story 3" is on the storyboards. Can Pixar- and, hopefully, its once and future business partners at Disney- keep this franchise fresh and wondrous? I certainly think so. Meanwhile, theres much to enjoy here.

There are two funny gags in Toy Story 2. The first is where Hamms coins fall out of him and he says "Please dont look until I get my cork back in". The second is where Rex asks Buzz how to get in the building. Buzz tells him to use his head. Rex wines "But I dont want to use my head". Toy Story 2 won 18 awards. This film is not better or worse than Toy Story. Enjoy!
Don't pass this up.....

I have personally seen Toy Story 1 at least 20 times with my children and by watching part 2; I must admit theyre both thumbs-up movies. I thought how anyone could make such movies so real until the 2nd one came along. The first Toy Story does not picture human beings very much but those characters like Woody, Buzz Light-year, Mr. Potato-Head, etc. are so true-to-life that you take them for real. Every movement they make mimics a real life. A salute to the cast, crew members, producers, and also Disney and Pixar for a job well done. The creative energy and technology that were put into these films remain impressive today, and the themes are timeless.
One doesnt usually pin too much of 2nds and 3rds, especially when the first one is already so good. Toy Story 2 had proved me wrong. Now I think, if I see the 2nd, I wouldnt want to see so much of the first anymore. Toy Story 2s human characters are just so real and adorable. You must watch both, the first, then the second, in any case, to appreciate them both. It is not a continuing story line but you have to watch the first to know how they all came about. Its a wonderful movie which will touch the hearts of children and adults alike.
Highly recommended again If you have kids you and must own this DVD collection. Its a movie they can be watch over and over, plus its part of history. The first Toy Story was the first 100% computer generated movie. That alone makes it worth while, but adds the fact that it is a great movie and you have a winner. Toy Story II is one of the exceptions when it comes to sequels. It is actually better than the original. I have put this movie on my list of "All Time Favorites."

John Lasseter, Lee Unkrich, and Ash Brannons "Toy Story 2" is that rare sequel that improves upon the original. By upping the emotional and pop culture quotient in this second outing, Disney and Pixar have succeeded in producing a memorable film that will appeal to filmgoers of all ages.

Woody (voiced by Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (voiced by Tim Allen) are separated when a toy collector named Al (voiced by Wayne Knight) spots Woody at a yard sale and takes him away. Determined to rescue his friend, Buzz rallies the rest of the toy gang and heads into the city. It turns out that Woody discovers that he was once a well-known television celebrity and that he is the missing piece in a collection that includes Jessie the Cowgirl (voiced by Joan Cusack), a horse named Bullseye, and Stinky Pete the Prospector (voiced by Kelsey Grammer). Buzz races against time to find Woody before Al can transport him to a toy museum

The returning voice-performers in "Toy Story 2" all do great work again. Hanks, Allen, Wallace Shawn, John Ratzenberger, Annie Potts, Don Rickles, and Jim Varney remind us once more of how good a job the first "Toy Story" (1995) did in developing its characters. Newcomers Cusack and Grammer help make Jessie and Stinky Pete worthy additions to the lineup and the two of them actually steal a lot of the spotlight from Woody and Buzz. The story this time around has a lot more depth to it and invokes a lot of childhood nostalgia when it is not taking jabs at the modern toy collector. Simply put, "Toy Story 2" is as much a treat for kids as it is for every adult who lost a little something when they outgrew their childhood friends.

BACK TO TOYLAND

TOY STORY 2 is one of those sequels that is just as good as the movie that spawned it. With even more brilliant Pixar animation and the return of all the main characters from the first, with some additional new ones, TOY STORY 2 is a delightful tale of toys and humans and the bond that exists in spite of the fact that one day the humans will grow up and abandon their toys. Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Joan Cusack, Kelsey Grammar and all the other great actors who voiced the characters bring life to these delightful toys and the animation once again is superlative. A wonderful film for the entire family to enjoy.

PIXAR not Disney     On: 2005-09-09

These are great movies. No doubt.

They are Pixar movies. Not Disney movies. Disney is the distributor, NOT the animator. Please dont confuse people. Just because it says Disney before the movie does not make it a "Disney movie". Disney is a mega-corporation churning out drivel for mass consumption.

The Dawning Of A New Era     On: 2005-08-06

The "Toy Story" movies helped usher in a new era for Disney, as the company slowly moved away from the standard animated films that made them famous (reserving them for direct to video sequels) and started breaking grounds in the field of computer animation. This has since spawned some of the House of Mouses best films, including "A Bugs Life", "Monsters Inc.", "Finding Nemo" and "The Incredibles".

I will dwell on plot details, though I will say that the large accumilation of voice talents (led by Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Don Rickles, Annie Potts, Joan Cusack and Kelsey Grammer) is the best cast ever assembled for a Disney movie. Instead, I will talk about this two dvd set. You get both films, obviously. (It should be noted that "Toy Story 2" is one of the few sequels that was better than the firs, which was great in its own right). But you are also treated to some extras. For starters, you get the option of watching the films in either full screen or widescreen. You dont get a lot of bonus features, but you get the Oscar nominated short films, "Tin Toy" (which won) and "Luxo Jr." "Toy Story 2" also has a hilarious outtakes reel at the end that is very fun to watch.

But it all comes down to the films themselves, which are two of Disneys most treasured classics, and deservedly so. These films are essetial for any dvd collection.

Just as Much Fun as the First     On: 2005-07-21

Genuinely enjoyable and goodhearted childrens fair. In an era of vulgar obnoxious "childrens" movies like the hit and miss Shrek 2 and the odious Shark Tale, Toy Story 2 is the rare childrebns movie you can actually leave your kids alone in the room with. Also, its wickedly funny in a clean way for any astute adults. Kids movies dont get any better.

Abosolutely Marvelous!     On: 2005-05-02

In this review I actually have 3 subjects to brag about! First I am going to brag about Amazon.com. I really dont think they get enough praise for the work they do for us!
I went to the new Overstock and they had one of five things I was looking for. The price was a couple of dollars lower but Amazon.com had ALL of the items and because my order was over $20 I got FREE SHIPPING! I have dealt with this company in the past and any time there has been a mistake it has been fixed immediately and the mistakes have been VERY MINIMUM! THANKS AMAZON!
Now for Toy Story. I never got to go the the movies to see it but being a Toy fanatic and having a broken leg at the time I ordered it from Amazon.com (who else?) and had it delivered straight to my door. It was fantastic and I do believe it could be Disney at his best!
So then part two came out and I had to go to the theatres to see it plus put it on pre-order from Amazon.com. So I went and saw it and it was so much better then the first. Im not a Star Wars fan at all but I did get the little jokes in the movie and I cant help but be impressed but the life-like impersinations of the human world. It was abosoultely marvelous.
Old and new characters and a similar but different story-line make this movie one of the very best from Disney. I can only hope they will make a part three.
Thanks a lot to Amazon.com and Disney for allowing us to get what we want when we want it!

Entertaining.     On: 2005-04-09

A good sequel to the smash hit Toy Story. A great family film in which the whole family with enjoy due to the humor and the charismatic characters that are involved. With great voice overs by actors and great directing that made this a great film.
Not quite up to the original's standards, but still fun
by: bekintex    On: 2005-03-07

Its time for Cowboy Camp and Sheriff Woody cant wait. This is the only time where he and Andy get to spend quality time alone together.

Then, Andy accidentally rips Woodys arm off at the last minute and he doesnt want to take a broken toy with him. Woody is shelved. By accident, he ends up in the family garage sale and is stolen by Al of Als Toy Barn.

Al reunites Woody with Jessie, the Yodeling Cowgirl, Stinky Pete, the Prospector and his faithful horse. Now that the set of Woody collectibles is complete, theyre going to be sold to a childrens museum in Japan.

Can Buzz Lightyear and the Gang from Andys room save Woody before its too late? And, does Woody want to be saved? Theres a good time to be had watching and finding out.

Here is a sequel that equals its predecessor in sheer enjoyment. Wonderful new characters make the story fresh. Loved all the references to Star Wars. I will be one of the first to purchase the video when it comes out. Hope that this is only the first in a long line of sequels or possible television series.

Just as good or better than the first.     On: 2005-01-22

I purchased this DVD for my 4 year old daughter. She calls it "Jessie the yodeling cowgirl movie" . It is a very cute movie and all the characters are great. I would recommend it to anyone who liked the first one. Sequels are not usually as good as the first but this movie is just as good, maybe better.
Excellent Movie     On: 2005-01-18

"Toy Story 2" is a very rare movie ... in that it is a sequel that is better than the original. Theres a lot of fun here, but I think it is the emotional parts that push it a notch higher than its predecessor.

In this story, Woody (a cowboy doll) is stolen by Al ... the evil toy store owner ... who plans to sell him to a toy museum in Japan. Back in Andys room (Andy is, of course, the boy who owns Woody) Buzz Lightyear (a spaceman doll and Woodys best friend) decides to go find Woody and bring him back home. In the meantime, Woody, while being held captive, meets Jesse, a cowgirl doll ... and learns that he was once the star of his own TV show ... and a national icon. Along the way of saving Woody before he is shipped to Japan a ... good-versus-evil situation ... emerges and the final outcome (of everything) is decided in a very exciting finish.

There are two emotional parts: Woody realizes that someday Andy will discard him. Also there is Jesses story. Jesse relates to Woody (in a flashback) the story of her past ... the loving relationship she had with her owner (Emily) and the heartbreak of being herself discarded. This is a gem of a scene ... so touching ... so easy to involve oneself in ... a privileged moment for us movie watchers ... and some very excellent work on the part of the movie makers. Sarah McLachlan sings the background song for this scene ... "When Somebody Loved Me" (written by Randy Newman) ... and she was the most perfect person to hire for this job.

The whole idea of toys being alive (when people are not looking) seems to have been a rich source of ideas for the folks at Pixar (the company that made "Toy Story" and "Toy Story 2"). Their other movies ... "A Bugs Life", "Dinosaur", "Monsters, Inc.", and even "Finding Nemo" ... do not measure up ... to the high quality of material found in the two Toy Story pictures. We all had toys and we all loved our toys, and this seems to have provided a ... bonanza of great story ideas.

Some of my favorite fun ideas here in "Toy Story 2" are ... a toys worst fear - a yard sale - is realized ... a second Buzz Lightyear doll is "cast" into the story ... a Zurg doll "The Arch Enemy of Buzz Lightyear" is brought to life for a ... showdown with Buzz ... Barbie dolls are given some substantial screen time, and they are ... delightful ... while the Rock em Sock em Robots make a cameo appearance ... and lastly, the toy repairman scene is a lot of fun.

One final thing about "Toy Story 2" ... it is also excellent in that there are no credits at the beginning of the movie ... and when the credits are shown at the end ... there are funny "out-takes" for us to watch.

But this is a high quality piece of entertainment ... one that reflects goodness and morality ... and is something Mr. Walt Disney himself would have approved of.

Best Movie for kids     On: 2004-12-26

My 4 year old son loves Toy Story 2 and rented it every opportunity we had, however that was getting expensive so my search began to find it on DVD. For months I was unable to locate this movie on DVD or VHS and gave up until prior to Christmas. I finally found it on the Amazon.com website as used and purchased it right away. My son loves this movie and will watch every chance he gets. The family also enjoyed the movie and will most likely purchase this movie for their own kids and enjoyment.
What a Wonderful Double Feature
by: wwwrusshessdvdmogal    On: 2004-12-20

What can be said for this double bill that hadnt already been said? I was fortunate to get one of these twin packs before they went out of print, and with Pixar and Disney splitting who knows when they will come back. The animation is wonderful, the sound is full and rich. The extras are aplenty and will keep the film buff busy with glee. If you can get a hold of one of these, or the ultimate edition---DO SO NOW!!! They can only go up in value.
Fun for the whole family     On: 2004-12-01

It is rare for a sequel to surpass the original movie artistically as well as commercially. One of those rare sequels is "Toy Story 2". I didnt think it was possible for Disney and Pixar to create a sequel as good as the first "Toy Story" but they did. "Toy Story 2" is that rare treasure.

In "Toy Story 2" Woody is stolen by Al, the toy collector who plans on selling his collection of Woody and the Round Up Gang to a Japanese toy collector. With Woody kidnapped, Buzz Lightyear, Ham, Slink, Mr. Potato Head, and Rex sets off to find their kidnapped companion. There are three new characters in the movie, Stinky Pete (voiced by Kelsey Grammar), Jessie (Joan Cusack), and Bullseye the horse. The writing and animation is superb. I really enjoyed the scenes with Woody, Jessie, Stinky Pete, and Bullseye. One of my personal scenes is when the toy collector calls in the old man to fix Woodys arm. The details in the animation is amazing and very realistic. I also loved the scenes when Jessie reminisces about her former owner Emily. It was very poignant without coming off as drippy. Sarah McLachlans song added a melancholy feel to the scenes. Another great moment in the film was when Buzz and the gang were in the toy store looking for Al, the toy collector.

"Toy Story 2" is one of my favorite Disney/Pixar collaborations. This is a film that can be enjoyed by all ages. It is also one of the best films ever, animated or not. The writing in this film is simply too good to ignore. I still enjoy watching this movie to this very day and not get tired of it.
The Sequel is Equal     On: 2004-10-27

Its not often a sequel comes along that is as impressive as the original. This is true even for Disney (remember "Son of Flubber"?). However, "Toy Story 2" follows up the hit "Toy Story" by giving the impression that Disney really knows what its doing with this theme. The idea is a good one; what do toys do when no human is around to play with them? The answer that we found in "Toy Story" continues with the further antics of Woody and Buzz Lightyear. This time they again leave home on a mission of rescue. Its just as hilarious as "Toy Story" and just as heart-warming. Along the way we meet some new characters by the names of Jessie, Bullseye and Stinky Pete. However, we retain the original cast that we have come to enjoy. Their personalities, their feelings, their interdependency, and their humor are what makes each of the "Toy Story" movies work so well.

Like its predecessor, "Toy Story 2" is a movie that can be enjoyed by the whole family and that is really saying a lot in this day and age. Disney was known for its ability to produce family movies but it, too, has slumped somewhat in recent years. However, "Toy Story" and "Toy Story 2" show that they can still read the book they wrote when it comes to this genre. Kudos as well to Pixar who has teamed up with them on both movies. If you dont like this movie, you dont like life.
A Really Good Sequel     On: 2004-10-27

How the makers of Toy Story could take our favorite characters, create a different storyline, add new characters, and turn it into a sequel this good is beyond me. Usually changes such as the ones that were made in this movie end up being too different for my liking, but for some reason the changes only made the story of Woody, Buzz, and their pals more interesting. The new characters (Jessie, Bulls-Eye, and Mrs. Potato Head.) fit right in with the old characters.

I think that many people will be pleased that Ham, Slink, Mr. Potato Head, and Rex all have bigger roles in this movie. As a matter of fact, they are one of the main focuses.

I also must ask other people who have seen this movie if they recognized the man who sewed Woodys arm from the short story in "A Bugs Life". What a funny little old man.

Overall, I would say that this is a great movie to watch as a family, especially if youve seen the original Toy Story. I believe that not only is it cute, but it has a good message. One of the best sequels Ive ever seen!

This movie is one of few good sequel movies. It had a new story, new charecters, and lots more without changing the original charecters too much.

When Woody is kidnapped by a toy collecter, Buzz and the gang set out on a mission to get him back. In the meantime, Woody finds out that he is a rare toy from an old TV series called Woodys Round-Up, and he is going to be part of a collection being shipped to a museum in Japan.

I would recommend this movie to any Toy Story fan!

there really is some old show about woody.the song at the end is real too.a take of it is even done by beatles.maybe on thier help album.its called act naturaly.there is one part where woodys new play pal,a cowgirl called jessie, sings this very depressing song.it is really that sad and it makes kids cry.they shouldve skipped that part.in this one, wheezey,a rubber penguin has lot his squeaker and gets sent to the yard sale.woody goes to rescue him and is abducted by a greedy old collecter.at his house is the complete set of the woodys roundup gang from the old show.they tell woody about how hes a collectors item and how this guy intends to sell them to a toy museum in japan.meanwhile, buzz and some of the other toys head to the thiefs home to rescue woody.there are a lot of famous voices here.woody-tom hanks,buzz-tim allen, springy dog-that hey verne guy and many many more.the kids love thius movie and will watch it till the tape snaps, then scream until you replace it.its one of the best pixar films out there.its not as good as the first one though.there is a bad guy in the collection called stinky pete.hes really creepy.also,a horse named bulleseye.at one point jessie is confiding in woody about how this little girl broke her heart by leaving her underneath the bed and eventualy getting rid of her and sings this terribly sad friendship dirge.this part sends kids to teers.stinky pete is obsessed over getting to the museum to be immortalized after being neglected his whole life.hes very pushy and mean.at the very end, they hint around about a toy story 3.

If you look at Amazon.com its priced at $75US and we Canadians have to pay $250? NOT A CHANCE! Id rather try my luck bidding on Ebay for it than pay that price. I couldnt be more disappointed with Amazon.ca than I am now. Our dollar isnt THAT low yet.
It's Different.     On: 2004-06-09

Its different from your average animated film. So was Toy Story part 1 but this one is better. The movie plotting is a lot better in this part. I give it five stars(Id give it six if it was in my hands!)
The secret lives of toys
by: bonesteeldavid    On: 2004-05-28

Woody (Tom Hanks), who turns out to be a rare collectible, is stolen by an unscrupulous toy store owner and slated to be sold to a toy museum in Japan. Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen) and friends embark on a dangerous cross-town rescue mission. This is a very entertaining and perceptive film that remembers the guilt that a child can feel over outgrowing a favorite toy. Sammy the bear was my own constant companion when I was a young child. As I grew older, I sometimes felt a pang of shame when I would encounter him lying unloved and unplayed-with in the bottom of my old toy chest. I hope hes as philosophical and understanding about it as Woody is. As cheerful as this film is, it takes on an added dimension by honoring that first melancholy that a child feels upon outgrowing a formerly cherished plaything. The animation and voice talent are also top-notch.
Astounding!
by: sealfan4life    On: 2004-05-19

The first Toy Story movie was absolutely amazing but the 1999 sequel however does the unthinkable by taking what was good about the first and building on it!

Here, Tim and Buzz Lightyear are back in their owners home but things go horribly awry when they are misplaced in a box and are picked up by a saleman who aims to sell it to a public museum and put it up for permanent display and its up to Tim and Buzz to get themselves back home before its too late.

There are a lot of great things about this movie but they are too numerous to explain with this review. Go and get this movie as soon as possible! Its worth every penny!

In a class of its own     On: 2004-04-27

Excellent movie. Both my 3 year old daughter & myself sit down together & watch this movie on a regular basis. We both love this movie - she adores the characters and I love the humourous storyline & quality animation. Not a dull moment from beginning to end.
One of the best films ever made     On: 2004-04-17

Its not the extraordinary animation that makes this film work so well, its the characters, the voices and the music (anyone who doesnt cry during Jesses song has a heart of stone, its one of the finest things Randy Newman has ever written). But mostly its the script. Multi-layered in a way that I still cant quite get over, its got everything from good fun and drama for kids to genuine questions of identity and meaning for adults. Plus, of course, some great jokes. Like most good kids films, this one has been played hundreds of times at our place, to the point where I could probably recite every line by heart, but it still has the power to move me. Of course its impact on 4 year olds is much much better :)
Greatest Pixar Animation ever made!!     On: 2004-04-11

Toy story 2 is one of those movies youll love to watch a billion times because of the atmosphere, related charecters and a great storyline. Most of the places made like, Als toy barn or Pizza Planet may be imaginary but a job well done, its now a recognizable name, and last but not least, the new charecters are greatly added to the storyline, begining the phenomemon of Woodys round up. I loved this movie and i cant wait for the third one. hope the sequel can out beat the 2nd.

Hey, Michael Eisner - Re-release this on DVD!     On: 2004-03-13

Ive just watched this film on TV with my family, and, since we all loved it, turned to this page to see about buying it. But - no surprise - the geniuses at Disney have locked this one up in their vault (along with the original "Toy Story"), and arent making it available for sale. So instead of Disney making money by selling me one, Im going to have to scout around and buy a second-hand copy, or simply videotape it when its repeated on the Disney Channel. Either way, we wont have the mint copy wed like, and Disney will be losing another sale. Talk about bad business decisions!
Toy Story Limited Edition     On: 2004-03-03

My copy of Toy Story was stolen along with about 300 of my other DVDs incl some rare ones a couple of weeks ago . I was then desperately seeking a replacement and couldnt find it in Toronto. Ordered through Amazon and had it within 5 days in fantastic condition sealed! . Extremely Satisfied . I highly recommend using this service.

Collector's Item
by: hotpurplekoolaid    On: 2004-02-24

This is definitely a collectors item. It is one of the extremely rare cases when a sequel is better than the original (which was a five star by itself)

Not only do you get two excellent movies in one pack, but the bonus features rival the movies for entertainment value. The outtakes are hilarious, and the short film "Luxo Jnr" belies the fact that it was created way back in 1986.

This should be rated 15 stars - 5 for each movie and 5 for the bonus features.

Worth the $

My entire family loves these movies. While we enjoyed the second movie more, both are a joy to watch again and again. We bought the DVDs to replace worn out VHS copies. The 3rd disk doesnt have much of interest, but then, how could they top the movies?
the funniest pixar movie's of all time!!!!!!!!!!!!

I havent really seen the special featurres, I havent really seen the dvds, but when these movie come back in print, ill be the first one to get it. These movies better come back on the shelf,a world without toy story,is like a world without jennifer lopez and ben afflecks movie gigli, its the best movie ever!!!!!!!(for you serious people, im being sarcastic). Pixar needs to put this back on the shelfs, pronto!!!
Wow!!!
by: Anonymous    On: 2003-12-10

I bought this movie for my kids last Christmas and now look whats happening? Well let me tell you the story, when i first got this for my two boys, they watched it atleast 2 times a day. Soon, they started believing that toys are really alive. Now, they try to talk to theyre toys, and when the toys dont say anything back, they try to kill them! I have found about 6 toys, totally ripped apart in their rooms, and they are still watching the movie 2 times a day! Its been a year, and theyre at it again! So i suggest, DONT BUY THIS for your kids!
Real Toys
by: Anonymous    On: 2003-10-12

The first time I saw TS1 & 2 was on a bad taped version, so I bought the 2 disc DVD the second I got a DVD player (a couple years ago). And the 2 disc was worth the money. But even seeing them on a badly taped version I was absorbed into the story of these toys. As an only child, I was convinced my toys had a life when I left so watching these movies took me back to my childhood. As disturbing as Sid was, theres a lot of kids who enjoy destroying toys and for this reason he was a perfect real villian for the toys. The best part of these films is that (with the exception of Woody and Buzz, or in TS2s case the Woody toy collection) all the toys are real toys. The idea of Toys living has been done before, but the fact that these were actual toys (from Mattle, Hasbro, FisherPrice, etc) really brought it to life (that and the introduction of 3D computer animation in feature length format). At times, I forgot it was animated. And even though Woody and Buzz only became real toys because of the movie, the two eras of toys they represent are very real as are the stories sorounding them (TS1 shinny new toy becomes boys favorite, TS2 Classic old toy becomes collectors item). Also, the story itself got to the heart of what a buddy film is suppose to be. Theres nothing else to say except that these movies are a must have.
Adorable Disney movie     On: 2003-10-09

wow! If you or your children enjoy family time watching videos then you should deffinatly, deffinatly watch the set of Toy Story. Buzz and Woody set very good examples of friendship and the rest of the amazing toys show very good team work. This video is a video I myself could watch over and over again. This would be a video I would recomend to anyone, of any age, it is GREAT...
A real treat
by: dzimas    On: 2003-10-06

This is a beautifully packaged collection! Get one while supplies last, it may prove as valuable as a vintage Woody doll. Pixar really came up with something wonderful in these two stories, both provide such engaging accounts of ones [longing] for toys of the past. My kids treasure these two movies and the dialog is witty enough to draw parents into the stories. Toy Story II builds on the former, introducing a wider range of characters and offering a light-hearted parable on the collection mania in America. One too many out of the frying pan and into the fire situations for my taste, but the action keeps kids enthralled throughout. Hanks and Allen lend great voice to the battling lead characters, and there are many other wonderful voices as well. The only drawback (and it is a mild one) is not mixing Pixar toys with real family members. I think that would have made the stories even more compelling.
One of my kids' ultimate favorites!     On: 2003-09-29

My children- ages 4 and 2- are absolutely, totally in love with this movie, and would willingly sit and watch it over and over and over again. They actually much prefer this sequel to the original Toy Story, which seems to scare them a bit (they dont like the scenes in Sids room with the scary-looking toys, or the when he is blowing up his toys). All-in-all, this is a perfect film, and one which children and parents alike will enjoy together for many years to come.
Family favorite!     On: 2003-08-31

My husband and I bought this DVD set for our little boy when he was only 2. We werent sure if he would like it or not, but its now one of his favorites! This is a great set for family night or even for a lazy Sunday afternoon. We never get tired of watching Buzz and Woody!
What good movies!     On: 2003-07-20

Both TOY STORY films are so good, funny, great stories, unbelievable animation and Tom Hanks and Tim Allen really make Woddy and Buzz come to life! I dont think theres a person on Earth who doesnt like thesse movies. I remember back in 95 when the first one was in theaters; I saw it literally 5 or 6 times, and the same goes for the second one. Do not pass up this great DVD 2-pack of unforgettable Disney classics! Walt would be so proud!
Fun Fun Fun     On: 2003-06-20

Toy Story was great. As much for the adults as any kid watching. And Pixar did a great job w/the computer animation.

Toy Story 2 was even better, though it seemed to have more adult pleasing scenes. Both DVDs are as good as the theatre experience. The movies get 5 stars each.

The 3rd disk of technical stuff is interesting, but it didnt hold my attention as much as I thought/hoped it would - so I give that a 3 star rating. I averaged out to overall 4 stars.

I would have been just as happy with the two-pack, but the three-pack looks good in the DVD collection.

Safe yourself a little $$$ and and get the two pack unless youre into the technical pieces.

Pixar's Best - a must have     On: 2003-05-10

These two movies are probably some of the best kid movies ever made. I always wondered what it would be like if my toys came alive when I left the room, and Disney and Pixar explored just that. Normally we all know sequels usually turn out bad, but Toy Story 2 was just as good as Toy Story 1, and they spared no expense getting back the original voices, which made it that much better. I loved the addition of Bullseye because hes adorable, and the fact that the plot line is so stable is great. This is another must have.
Great family movie     On: 2003-03-15

Great movie, one of the few Disney sequels that are actually good, must buy!
To Infinity....And Beyond!     On: 2003-02-28

Both Toy Story and Toy Story 2 were big hits, thanks to the craftmanship of John Lasseter and everyone at Pixar. If you enjoyed both movies and dont yet have them on DVD (or are an avid collector of all things Disney), The Toy Box is the format to get them in!

In Toy Story, Tom Cruise plays Woody, a lovable cowboy who starts out as Andys favourite toy. Other toys include the nervous TRex, Hamm, Little Bo Peep, an Etch a Sketch, Mr. Potato Head (Don Rickles) and Slinkey Dog (voiced by the late Jim Varney). At Andys birthday party, Woody gathers the toy troops to find out what new presents Andy got for his birthday. Woody soon dicovers that his popularity is in question when a new toy enters Andys life, Buzz Lightyear (played by Tim Allen). Woody gets a little jealous of the attention Buzz gets. With all the fun little gadgets Buzz comes with, he only has one flaw- he doesnt realize hes just a toy. Woody causes more trouble for Buzz than he had intended when the 2 of them wind up outside Andys house. To rectify this, Woody tries his best to get himself and Buzz back to Andys house and away from the clutches of bratty neighbour Sid. The DVD includes The Tin Toy, a 1988 film by Pixar.

Both movies feature the musical score of the talented Randy Newman and the winsome song "Youve Got a Friend in Me."

Toy Story 2 starts out with Andy going away to Cowboy Camp. He cant take Woody with him after Woody nearly loses his right arm. However, someone else is interested in Woody- greedy Toy Barn owner Al, who gets possession of Woody and plans to use Woody in an exhibition in Japan. Here, Woody finds out that he came from an old Western show for kids called Woodys Roundup. Here he meets the Roundup Gang. Theres Bullseye the horse, Stinky Pete (Kelsey Grammer) and the feisty but vulnerable Jessie (Joan Cusak). Its up to Buzz to help Woody see theres more happiness in being Andys toy than being on display with nobody to play with. Other new characters include Buzzs supercool nemesis Zurg, whos introduced in the beginning of the movie and the cute Wheezy the penguin. This DVD also features outtakes which were shown during the credits and the cartoon short Luxo, jr, who wound up as the mascot for Pixar.

And now for the extra disk, give yourself a week or 2 to enjoy all the features which include interviews with the animators, producers and some of the voices. Outtakes, animation secrets, inside jokes and full-length commentaries of both movies are included. Demos of Randy Newmans songs and a video from Riders in the Sky performing the "Woodys Roundup Theme" are included as well as the history of the original concepts that Pixar worked on. But get this soon, because it will soon be out of print and you may have to schill out lots of money in auctions to get it!

Just as Enjoyable as the First     On: 2003-02-25

It is very rare to find a sequel that is just as enjoyable as its predecessor, but this is one of those rare cases. Since the first film, Buzz and Woody have become the greatest of friends and all in Andys room has been happy go lucky until the day of the family garage sale. At the garage sale Andys ends up inadvertantly putting himself up for sale, and even though Andys mother finds him and tells a prospective buyer that he isnt a sale item, Andy still ends up going home with a collector believing in five finger disounts.

This is a touching story, with some great twists. The animation is flawless as usual and the enjoyment level, and humor are at any all time high.

Worth every red cent!!     On: 2003-02-05

One cannot say enough in praise of these two brilliant films. The Toy Story films are as close to perfect entertainment as movies get. By using the overused adjective perfect, I am simply stating that the two films contained in this superbly packaged collectors edition filled overflowing with top flight extras geared for all DVD fanatics, stand as the rare example of stories that the entire family can watch, savor and revel in.

I define a perfect film as one that is not only expertly crafted in coordinating all the creative elements, but one that also teaches profound lessons while being pure escapist fun that, while appealing to all ages of an audience, also remains fresh and lucid after many repeated viewings. My personal definition of a perfect film also includes the following elusive criteria: that if one possibly could, it would be most desirable to step out of real life and into the imagined world of the film. The classic musical "Singin In The Rain" is just one example of a film that meets this "perfect film" criteria. If I could take a few films onto a deserted island, this box set would be included without a doubt.

Teaching the lessons of loyalty, imagination, faith, perseverance, courage and hope, Pixar has crafted two films that truly teach while entertain. No small feat considering the profoundly expansive amount of shallow garbage populating the multi-plexes. Both films earn their happy endings honestly without cheap manipulation. A rare and valuable miracle in of itself.

Pixars visual paintings are eye-wateringly beautiful to behold. Every frame vibrates in rich color, texture and detail. The writing is crisp, witty, and deceptively literate. It is amazing how both films deftly confront in concepts of mortality and community without resorting to maudlin and sentimental meanderings. The vocal performances of Tom Hanks, Tim Allen and a rich supporting cast provide subtetly and humanity to all the fantastic proceedings.

The theme song "Youve Got a Friend In Me" is a most charming testaments to companionship. Especially the version with Randy Newman singing a duet with Lyle Lovette. The inclusion of the always excellent Riders in the Sky for the second film also gives the film a fine musical nuance.

It really is tragic that the Oscars and "serious" critics overlooked these phenomenal films which stand as sterling examples of mainstream Hollywood "getting it right".

Do not blanche at the price tag for this box set. It and all the extra trimmings are worth every penny.

Worth the extra money!     On: 2003-01-13

If I had not received The Ultimate Toy Box: 3 Disc Collectors Set for Christmas, I was going to buy it myself. It is definitely worth the extra money.

The thrid disc is packed with bonus material explaining how the Toy Stories movies went from the original idea to the final rendering. There are hundreds of photos and drawings, sounds samples and story boards. Be prepared to spend a lot of time going through it all.

One of the coolest features is that on several menus you get to use the angle key on your DVD remote to switch between the story board, layout and the final product.

Another is a mini-mixer which lets you listen to either the effects, dialog, music (or a combnation and any two or three) from the elevator scene of Toy Story 2.

If you enjoyed the Toy Story movies and are interested in how computer animation is done then you wont be disappointed in this DVD set.

If you don't own either DVD, why not get it all and more...     On: 2003-01-05

If, for some strange twist in the fabric of space and time, you dont own either of these movies on DVD (and youd like to fix that before anyone notices) then this is your lucky day!

The Movies:
The stories are great. The original "Toy Story" is a wonderful flashback to the film that has inspired so much since. "Toy Story 2" is, in my opinion, even better. Neither are technically advanced compared to recent movies, but thats not whats important. The plots and characters are the best youll ever find in childrens entertainment. Half of the jokes will fly over the younger viewers heads, but will keep the adults in stitches. I cant praise these movies enough, they were made from the heart, not the wallet.

The Discs:
My only complaint about the discs, really a minor annoyance, is that the sound volume on the menus is really loud. The menus are fun, with lots to explore. In the "extras" dept, theres very little lame content created just to fill space, its all there for the fans.

Fun movie, something for everyone     On: 2002-12-31

I liked a lot about this video (didnt see it in the theatre), just about the worst thing in it was the approx. 9 minutes of movie previews and commercials for other videos. Once you get past that the viewer gets to see a little short PIXAR made about two desk lamps and their antics, just about anybody ought to like that. The story itself I wont really get into except to say that the plot while somewhat kiddish is entertaining with something for everyone altough I think some gags are aimed more at adults than children.
The thing I liked most about it is the way everything was rendered so well. Final Fantasy was completely computer generated but the characters had a certain artificial action in their movements, in Toy Story 2 everything moves very well indeed. Woody & friends move more like people than puppets, the lighting is realistic, details are amazing ( I certainly remember seeing Jessies reflection in a window). If PIXAR can do so well now (see also Monsters, Inc.)what will they be able to achieve in another 5 years.
Toy Story and Toy Story 2 pak
by: huntergunz    On: 2002-12-27

This is a great DVD set because not only do you get the staple of computer animated movies in Toy Story but you also get Toy Story 2, the great follow up!

In Toy Story, its all about the big move to the new house and leader of the toys in Andys room, Sherriff Woody (Tom Hanks) prepares his fellow toys for the big move but before the big move, after Andys birthday, a new toy moves in, Buzz Lightyear of Space Command (Tim Allen). Slowly, Woody starts to feel as if hes getting replaced by Buzz and in an attempt to win Andys affection back, they both instead get LOST! And now its a race to find their way back to Andy in time of the move.

In Toy Story 2, Woody is kidnapped because hes accidentily dropped in a box for a garage sale. His kidnapper, Al (Wayne Knight) is a classic toy collector and then Woody finds out that he was also a national phenomenon just like Buzz is. He also finds the rest of Woodys Round Up Gang, Jessie (Joan Cusak) and Stinky Peter (Kelsey Grammar) and they tell him that now that the Round Up Gang was complete that they were going to the Toy Museum in Japan. Woody not wanting any part of that, tries to find ways to escape and get back to Andy while his friends, led by Buzz, Slink the Dog, Mr Potatohead, Rex the T-Rex and Ham are on the hunt to find Woody before Andy gets home.

Seriously, how can you go wrong with either of these classics? This is one of the best DVD sets I own and probably one of my favorites. This set should be a part of any familys collection because the kids will love this movie and the parents will be glad that they did. Also, if youre looking for another great DVD for the whole family, check out MONSTERS Inc and SHREK. Those 2 titles will also go great for your collection.

Two excellent animated movies on a 2-Disc DVD Set.     On: 2002-12-13

"Toy Story" and "Toy Story 2" are two excellent animated movies that I own on a 2-Disc DVD Set. "Toy Story" deals with Woody, the cowboy doll, and Buzz Lightyear, the space ranger, getting kidnapped by Sid, a kid who tortures toys. "Toy Story 2" deals with Woody getting kidnapped by Al, the chicken man and toy collector. There he meets Jessie, the cowgirl, Bullseye, the horse, and Stinky Pete, the prospector. But Buzz Lightyear and the gang are here to save him. If youre a Disney fan and own a DVD player, please own this DVD. I guarantee you wont be disappointed.
GREAT set, absolutely no complaints.     On: 2002-10-19

What more is there to say? Like the movies enough, get this set with all the extras! Its worth the xtra money!
Hilarious     On: 2002-09-30

This movie is an incredible animation great for the whole family. Mr. Potato Head gave an outstanding performance.
Better than the original!     On: 2002-09-14

My daughter wore out the original Toy Story tape and it wont play anymore. I thought there would be no way that the second one could be better, but I was wrong. The story is so great! Woody gets kidnapped from his yard and discovers he is an antique doll from his old TV show "Woodys Round-up". We meet his round-up gang which introduces us to new characters, Jesse and Stinky Pete.

Woodys pals, Buzz, Potato Head, Slinky and Ham are trying to get to Als Toy Barn to rescue him. There are some great moments in the movie that only an adult would catch (the reflection of the dinosaur in the toy car mirror ripped right from "Jurassic Park") which will give you a chuckle.

Overall, a great story, some good tunes (Sarah Mclaughlan will make you cry) and lots of fun! Worth 5 stars.

Toy Story 2     On: 2002-09-10

We really loved this movie. Our 2 1/2 year old son just went wild over Buzz Lightyear. It was really cute. Toy Story 2 is really better suited for a really young audience because there is no scary bad guy. The mean boy Sid of Toy Story 1 was just a little too scary. We preferred this movie to the original.
Better than the first
by: tjillenb    On: 2002-09-08

Toy story 2 fleshes out the charcter of Woody. Woody is kidnapped by a greedy toy collector who wants to put him in a museum with the rest of his round-up gang. Woody finds out he was part of a major childrens puppet show (Like Howdy Doody) and that he is a very valuable doll. He meets Jessie who is part of his round-up gang. Jessie wants to go to the museum and hates being in storage. The rest of the round-up gang includes woodys horse Bullseye and the Prospector. Woody still holds loyalty to Andy.

In the meantime Andys toys launch a daring rescue. They run into Barbie (Tour Guide Barbie). Of course Barbie is portrayed as a complete Airhead. The Round-uP gang convince Woody to join them. Andy is getting older and will out grow his toys. Jessie sings a beautiful song "When she loved me" about her child Emily. Emily outgrew Jessie and ended up giving her to charity. Of course Buzz and the Gang reach Woody.

Woody realizes he cannot stop Andy from growing up and he would not miss it for the world. The prospector tries to stop them. Eventually Woody goes back to Andy with Jessie and Bullseye.

This is a great story about loyalty and frienship. Most children animation shows are very violent. Toy Story 2, as well as the first movie, gives a possitive message to children and are a refreshing change of pace. Toy Story 2 shows that a Child is a toys entire universe and that they are crushed deaply when they are abandon. There are some children that do have an enotional attachment to their toys and do keep them into their adulthood. Some even pass their toys onto thier children. Toy story is a movie that can be enjoyed by both adults and children. The animation was fantastic. I like that "tongue in cheek" reference to Star Wars when Buzz confronted Emperor Zurge.
"You killed my father"
"Wrong, I am your father"
"No!!!"

Will there be a Toy Story 3?

Wonderful!     On: 2002-08-30

A excellent, expansive set covering every aspect of the making of these two films. Well worth it!
Fun for Adults and Children     On: 2002-08-27

I liked this movie better than the first one. The old gang is still here, with Buzz, Woody, Rex, Hamm, Sliky, and Potato Head, but the new characters introduced in this film are what makes it so good. Potato Head gains a spouse when Mrs. Potato Head arrives, along with her habit of making sure her husband has enough items in his "pouch", including his shoes and "angry eyes". Jessie, Stinky Pete, and Bullseye form Woodys round up gang. Woody meets these new toys after being kidnapped by Al, a toystore owner who wants to add Woody to his collection of rare toys. Woodys pals find out that hes been kidnapped and set off on a mission to bring him back to Andys bedroom. They encounter some funny mishaps along the way, but in the end, everyone ends up safe and sound.

I have 2 young children ages 3 and 1 and they both adore this film. I also enjoy watching it with them, and I always seem to get a laugh from it. This is a good movie to watch as a family. The kids and the adults will enjoy it.

Very Good, even for grown-ups
by: kona_    On: 2002-08-09

This very funny video has such a good script, that grown-ups can enjoy it as much as the kids. This time out, Woody gets taken from a garage sale and ends up in a valuable collection. Should he go home? Can he go home? Is Andy growing up and losing interest in him? The toy characters are very funny; I especially like Rex, the dinosaur and Wheezy, the penguin. Of course, Woody and Buzz Lightyear are the stars and they are witty, brave, and true-blue. I recommend this video to children and parents alike.
Two triumphs in animated cinema
by: daria_m    On: 2002-08-03

Not only do "Toy Story 1 & 2" feature stunning animation, but they also have appealing stories, funny dialogue/jokes, and heart. Around the time the first "Toy Story" came out, I had been disappointed with some of Disneys 90s animated features (namely "Pocahontas" and "The Hunchback of Notre Dame"). Disney storytellers were getting a bit too serious. Well, they brought the wide-eyed fun quality back, and this time they coupled it with the most groundbreaking, realistic animation I had ever seen.
Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, and other gifted cast members do wonderful voice work. Dont mean to sound cliche, but they really bring life to the characters, just as the plot brings life to toys. The humor/comic timing is right on. There are enough madcap moments to keep kids entertained and enough inside/background jokes for adults to have a laugh.
Both films rank among my favorite movies of all time. I havent met anyone who doesnt like these movies if they have seen them. Its going to be one of those timeless classics that people will pass on to their children for years to come. Im glad to have been alive when it debuted; it makes me feel special! :)
If toys were alive, this is the story they would tell...     On: 2002-08-01

I saw this film in two halves. I watched part of it at a friends place, and the other half on a flight home. This is such a "feel good" movie. You come out wanting to watch it all over again. Great fun to watch.

In this sequel, Woody, Buzz and the whole gang are back. This time Andy is headed off to camp and mom decides to sell off some of the older toys. In an attempt at a rescue, Woody gets stolen by a maniacal toy collector. Turns out Woody belongs in a collection of three (together with Jessie the Cowgirl, and Stinky Pete the prospector). When Woodys friend realize what has happened, they form a rescue mission of their own. Tracking down the collector was easy because of his chicken-suit commercial promoting the toy store he works at called the Toy Barn. The rest of the movie just has to be watched.

As Doug Thomas puts in his editorial review, this story is about the "eternal debate of living a good life versus living forever." What happens when a toys owner grows old and slowly forgets about the toy? The conclusion I gathered from the film is that its more important to be loved (and have loved) than not to have been loved (and love) at all. And when the owner goes away, the saying "Besides, thats what friends are for." just warms the heart. When all is said and done, we see that the toys have a lot of fun on their own anyway ;).

There is a more complicated theme I found in the story. (Forgive me if the symbolism seems a bit far fetched.) When Buzz sings "Youve got a friend in me..." it forces Woody to choose between family (the collection thatll last forever in a museum, much like how family is forever) and his friends (Buzz and his rescue party). Woody is torn between the two. Should he go back home to his friends and owner, or should he get memorialized in a museum for the world to see. And I think the films resolution of this matter was well done. Initially, the family pulls more weight (Woody chooses to stay with Jessie and Pete), but when the dust settles life just isnt complete (he changes his mind which angers Pete and gives stinky real meaning). The best thing to do is have your cake and eat it to. Bring family and friends together. Let the choice be both. Who says they cant get along? And if they cant, well, relationships arent set in stone. All it takes is some common ground, something to agree on.

You have got to see this film. It will send you to the floor laughing. As always, dont forget to stay for the ending credits where they have outtakes thatll make you laugh until it hurts.

Pixar is great     On: 2002-07-19

What can I say? Pixar is the King in Computer Animation, and this pack proves it, youll get both Toy Story 1 & 2, besides a third DVD loaded with extras, very, very Interesting. My only complain is that it hasnt Audio in spanish, heck, not even subtitles in spanish! Disney should realize this kind of collector packs dont get proper transfers in México, this one doesnt exist in México, and its a shame my nephew (8 yrs. old) cant enjoy it fully, because he doesnt understand English, nor can read it.
Better Than The Original!     On: 2002-07-19

This is better than the first movie, including that Tom Hanks should be nominated for "Best Actor" of the 74th Annual Academy Awards. This is why this is better than the original.
Toy Story 2 Tops the Original     On: 2002-07-13

Rarely is a sequel better than its predecessor, but the Disney/Pixar combo has struck gold again.

We once again visit the world of toys to meet with Woody, Buzz and the gang. Harmony has been established as Woody and Buzz can now co-exist with one another, until Woody is kidnapped trying to save another toy.

This is a fun movie, even for adults. I do not even have children, but my wife and I were both able to enjoy this movie.

The voice work and artistry were well-done, topping Pixars previous works, Toy Story and A Bugs Life. The work done by Tom Hanks and Tim Allen were well done, as always, but the addition of Wayne Knight, Joan Cusack and Kelsey Grammer to the cast, were good choices and they played the parts well.

This is a great movie for the kids, but there is enough to make this a guilty pleasure for the adults.

A good sequel?!!!     On: 2002-07-02

Yup. What the first "Toy Story" did well, the sequel does as good if not better. The script was smartly written to give added depth to the characters and has them deal with issues that come out of leftfield but dont come off as farfethed, such as having to deal with the aspect that eventually, their owner will outgrow them. Tim Allen and Tom hanks reprise their roles as Buzz and Woody, and they are hilarious. Dont be fooled to the sequel stigma, treat yourself to maybe the best sequel in the history of Hollywood.

This movie is greater than the first movie, better than any movie that has to do with a movie that has toys. I give this ***** (5 out of 5).
Review: Toy Story 2     On: 2002-06-05

One of the best movies I have ever seen is the Toy Story Trilogy. I do say, that TS is better than TS2, but TS2 is very good.

As the title says, this movie is the sequal of Toy Story. I
